General Cycling Discussion - Places to stay in Quebec

I posted this in the 50+ forum and then realized the General forum might be more appropriate:

My wife and I are riding north of Montreal in late August and plan to visit Quebec for a couple of days afterward. We have never been to Quebec and would like to find a nice place, convenient to the city attractions, and one that will allow us to safely secure our bikes. We may bike around the city if that is sensible but walking will be fine. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to stay? Is inside the wall good? I have heard that something called the lower city, outside the wall, is becoming a hot location. Is that a better place to shoot for? Oh, we will be bringing our 22 YO daughter along. SHe will be interested in the music scene - does that make a difference about best locations?

Try the "Touring" Forum. The big book stores usually have a good selection of books on Montreal.

Quebec City. I am biking north of Montreal.

I don't think of Quebec City as north of Montreal at all, at least to me it seems east (looking at a map, it is north too, but you are driving east on 20). I have only been to Quebec City once, and was not biking. Staying downtown in the old city, inside or near the wall, would be really fun. It is a great, old, beautiful place. While I would think most hotels could store bikes, velo quebec runs a program called bienvenue cyclists in which they certify places (B&Bs and hotels and campsites) as bike friendly, including a place to store the bike.

By the way, Quebec City is holding its 400th anniversary this summer and fall, so it will be busy.

Make sure you reserve your accomodations well in advance.

Maybe I should start over. I am riding on the Petit Train du Nord, north of Montreal. After that I am driving east to visit Quebec. Thus the interest in lodging.

I have stayed a couple times at the Marriott Courtyard , it is between downtown and Old Quebec making everything convenient. You can't bring your bikes up to your room, but they have secure storage if you ask.

I have stayed at Laval University about 10 yrs ago. The room was something like $40 per night. Basic facilities. A few miles west of the old part of the city but near the main road into town.

We snagged a couple of rooms at Chateau St. Pierre (recommended on the 50+ forum). AT first they thought they couldn't accommodate us (2 rooms) but by making my daughter move rooms one night they squeezed us in. The Marriott was fully booked - it does sound like it will be a popular destination this summer.
