So, as some of you may recall, on June 1st I weighed my self for the first time in quite awhile, and after six weeks of riding I was coming in at a bit over 340 pounds. I did not weigh in before I started cycling, so I had no frame of reference on how I was doing in terms of weight loss, but I was shocked to see that I was so high. Well, on the 11th of June I had another weigh in for our yearly biometrics screening at work (last year was the first year they did this, and they did not take weight), and came in again at around 340 lbs.

Anyway, I hopped on the scale at work Sunday night before heading home (was working weekend OT), hoping to come in at around 330. I figured 10 lbs would be a good amount of weight to have lost in the past month. Well, I came in at 305 lbs. I thought it had to be a mistake. So, again, I weighted my self last night before heading come... 313!

I'm thrilled to have made so much progress. I've even had a few people mention my weight loss recently. But I want to temper my excitement a bit, as to not become discouraged to find that I haven't really lost all that weight! It seems like alot of weight to have lost, not least of all considering how bad I've been in the past months. I've been primarily working on getting more fruits and, especially, vegetables in my diet, but that hasn't stopped me from ordering pizza once, having a microwavable burrito, and some other less than healthy food choices. And, I've only been commuting to work... 2.5 miles each way.

The scale at work is a very nice digital scale that certainly looks to be built for the medical profession, and I made sure it let it calibrate itself to 0.0 lbs before hoping on. I'm really excited to pick up my LHT this weekend and hopefully start throwing down some real miles, and hopefully keep even a fraction of this weight loss up.

Has anybody else lost such a huge amount of weight in a short amount of time? In the past, I've lost weight fast once I started eating right and working out, but never this fast. Of course, I've never had this much weight to lose either. It does seem almost unhealthy, though.

I apologize for the somewhat rambling nature of this post, I have to get going to work and don't have time to go through and edit it to make more sense.

WHOA, GOOD JOB!!! Man, that kicks ass!

And don't worry about it being too fast, you'll adjust and slow down soon enough. My first week of weight loss when I started at 567lbs, I lost 26 pounds :). You'll adjust soon enough, enjoy it while it lasts and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

Also - pics of the LHT ;)

It's common to lose at a fairly rapid rate in the early stages. Just don't get to hopping on the scale every other day looking for a couple pounds loss, or you run the risk of getting discouraged when you aren't losing at such a rapid rate any more.

A lot of that is water loss. But, definitely, definitely, not all of it. Good job!

I lost 25 pounds in June...
All I did was eat less and ride more.
By eating less I am not saying I starve myself but cut down on the fast food, junk food, etc...
In fact, I had no fast food at all in June...

That combined with riding makes a bid difference.

I was at a party the other night and wearing a tank top with shorts...
Couldn't believe all the 'wow, you look like you lost alot of weight' comments...
It was great... I want to keep going!

Well, it's been a few weeks since I lost weighed in so I hopped on the scale before heading home tonight. The Good news continues... 293.8. No idea how long I will be able to keep this up, but I'm digging it!

It is good news.

BTW, to answer your original post, when I first began to lose weight, I dropped 25 pounds in my first month. 16 pounds in my first two weeks. I was 385, down to 360. After that I continued at about 10 pounds a month for 8 of 9 months.

Excellent news! As long as you are staying healthy, and it seems you are, then keep it burning!!

My weigh-in is tomorrow, but it was a bit of a cheat weekend, so who knows what I am in for.

I had the same thing happen. I lost 80 lbs in a short time frame, but now it has been and up and down battle, but I feel healthier and I am stronger. I figure I have put on some muscle as well. Great job though.

+1 on this. I lost a whole lot of weight fairly quickly when I made my lifestyle change. I still have about 20 pounds to go before I'm happy but have been fighting them for most of a year. I try real hard to not let the scale discourage me. Also remember you'll build muscle which ADDS weight.

Unless you enjoy tracking weight from day to day, as I did. It taught me that I swing as much as six pounds from day to day.

Great Job! :) Last week -in the middle of my dieting... I have been watching what i eat for about 3 months now successfully..and last week instead of going out to dinner with workers I got half a sub(roasted chicken on wheta, lettuce, tomatoe, onion and a ton of mustard and 2 triangles of cheese) and baked lays for dinner 3 days and 1 lunch and lost about 4 pounds or so! So you'd be amazed at what happens when you make better choices. Just keep eating right most of the time...and the pizza won't kill you on occassion as long as you get right back on track.

Not eating my favoirtes EVER I think causes me to have a diet mentality and binge.

So great job - 30 pounds! You go!

The comment about only ordering pizza once reminds me of the following post from Usenet:

"..."The Historian"... is visiting Cleveland this week to do some
chess research. .... Playing Mephistopheles to his Faustus I led him to a theater district deli,
and he wisely had the Fanny Brice ham sandwich (with fries!). As he pointed
out, Faustus wasn't led anyplace he didn't want to go."

If you want to have pizza, go for it!

I remember the first time I wore shorts and a t shirt in public. It was on the way home from the gym, and I stopped at a store to get dinner. I debated doing so, afraid I'd find folks staring at me or worse. I 'screwed my courage to the sticking place' and went in. No one noticed me. That was ten times better than any compliment I could have been given.
