Living Car Free - We're doing it

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
See, its working. We've noticed more people riding bikes transportationally
and the price comes down just like the old econ 101 book says - free capitalist
markets allocate resources optimally.
"While oil use in emerging economies such as China and India continue to increase rapidly, the United States still uses nearly three times as much oil as China, the second largest crude consumer, according to the CIA's world fact book. A dip in U.S. demand can have an amplified effect on the oil market."
"'People are still very much concerned about demand destruction,' said Neal Dingman, senior energy analyst with Dahlman Rose & Co."

Yes, they will honk at us to acknowledge our contribution and give us the universal singular salute to honor sharing the road.

I saw four other cyclist on my commute today. First I saw a lycra covered dude holding his own on Hwy 99, then a couple riding some hybrids. The last rider I saw was a kid my age(22). He was rolling a road master and the stem came loose so I offered some help. He rides about 30 miles a day on that POS bike to go work at a supermarket. I love my 8 mile RT commute to work.
Still doing it. If we keep up the good work oil prices might drop low enough
that they'll stop converting our food into gasoline.

What I have also noticed in an increase in scooters on the street. In my state anything under 50cc doesn’t require a special license so they make them with 49cc motors, you simply register them and you get a 30MPH vehicle that gets 100 MPG. They sell them everywhere now even at Pep Boys. All of the major motorcycle store have their own versions of these little scooters as well. Even Vespa is making a comeback. The kicker is they go for about $600.00 to $800.00 or about what I paid for my bike. At least they are easy to share the road with.

Unfortunately a huge number of those are made in China and repair parts are not available, soon the backyards and alleys of North America will be littered with broken down scooters. I would rather spend my money on a bike that will last my life time.
