Professional Cycling - I love two new American teams in but . . .

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If I have to see any more footage of the American team owner in his overly (in his mind) cool glasses and turtleneck under a jacket doofus I am going to scream!!
Go ahead he earned it. What did you do as you do not look very cool either.

Jonathan Vaughters is an absolute positive influence in US cycling. Shame some feel that his media exposure is an annoyance.

I have not seen Doug Ellis nor Bob Stapleton so I can't comment on that. You are referring to one of them, right? As they are the owners of the two American teams. And why make this post anyway? Why not just wait until tomorrow morning and scream yourself hoarse then tell us about that. It would be more interesting.
And, how are sideburns ironic? I can see maybe iconic...or even laconic, but the irony of his sideburns escapes me.

He's referring to Vaughters. Every time they show a little segment on Garmin-Chipotle, née Slipstream, they have (usually) both Vaughters and Ellis on there. I happen to enjoy their commentary and I like hearing about the program they're running as much as I like hearing from the riders. He just doesn't like Vaughters' "too-cool-for-school" blazer/turtleneck/square glasses look.

I wish Phil wouldn't have to say "the American" every time before mentioning Columbia or Garmin/Chipotle.

I'm willing to give Jonathan Vaughters all the latitude in the world. After all, he did actually break Charlie Gaul's record back in 1999

Lighten up, Francis!
Besides, the f-bomb in the car was worth all the rest. :)

He's a truly good guy with a good program that will make a difference.
Who would you rather see? Bruyneel? He has been on TV a little bit.
Riis? hes had his spotlight too.

columbia is an american team? does that make astana a luxembourg team, or for that matter chelsea a russian team?
Team Columbia as in Columbia Sportswear...but you probably already knew that and I'm completely missing your point.

Take heart...most of these posters will be gone in about two and a half weeks. We can look forward to their return next July.

Generally, when one is being funny or sarcastic, one shows :D, or :roflmao2:, or ;). Then they are subject to ridicule for not being what they attempted to be.
Or not. Don't do what they do, do what you do, and do it well. Or not.
;)
At the TOC, I was standing about 2 feet away from Vaughters in the tent at the finish line. He looked very stylish in his turtleneck and leather car coat. Looked a hell of a lot cooler than that poser Michael Ball.

so this is like his uniform?
Okay, I admit it - I hate turtlenecks (and mock turtlenecks) on mens. IMHO it is never a good, even if mags like "best life" and others push it every year.
And yes, he seems like a hell of a guy - and I too love seeing young new blood leading American teams. More than I can describe.
I was just banging a really bad look.

He's either quite metro or has a stylist. There aren't many men running around that can put together an outfit like he can. Seriously, I'd be in jeans, a wife beater and some flip flops.
Michael
Maybe he is hiding a hickey :twitchy: Or something on his neck like his interview with a vampire went badly.

Haven't seen him. I watch the Tour on Eurosport, where there's no particular national bias.
Please keep the sparing to a minimum please.

For crying out loud.....American owner + American team registration + American base of operations + American prime sponsor DOES NOT equal an American team. Get that through your skull. ;)
jk, of course.
turtleneck
Did they loose his luggage at the airport? I mean really .... his wearing that turtleneck like it's the frickin' yellow jersey this year! Give it a breather man. ;)

Wouldn't using Team Columbia Sportwear make more sense than Team Columbia as far as exposure goes?? I had to google to find out what company they were.... many companies have the name of Columbia in them... and I live right by a Columbia....

I thought they got rid of "nations" in Europe and now it's one big happy gigantic "nation". Unless it's soccer time...
BTW...last Giro stage I watched was very biased towards the Italian riders...last classic I watched via the magic of the net from Belgium was very biased towards Belgian riders...
And that's natural.
Like it will be in a month here when the "Michael Phelps Invitational", otherwise known as Olympic swimming, takes place...

Yeah, they are - especially when you let them grow halfway down your back. The hair flow from under the helmet on a downhill run is quite striking.
Just in case there's any question: I am Southern, redneck, and proudly tacky as hell.
