Fifty Plus (50+) - Seattle to Portland (STP) ride?

I, along with my sweet wife, are doing the giant Seattle to Portland (http://www.cascade.org/EandR/stp/index.cfm) ride this weekend. We'll leave CA on Thursday and launch the 2 day event Saturday. It's 100 miles each day, but pretty flat.

Are any other forum members going?

I'd hoped the 50+ jersey shipment would be here before I left. I want to wear my jacket and wind vest. Alas, no sign of delivery yet.

Yep, check out the related threads in the Pacific Northwest and Long Distance forums. This is my first STP and will probably be doing it in two days with a stop in Vader, unless I get there early with enough left in the tank to go the rest of the way.

I had a job in Antioch for one day (West Marine)...long story.

My bib number is 2009. Not sure which jersey I'll wear. Depends on the weather...possibly yellow or white sleeveless if it looks hot, else black and orange OSU, or black and yellow Vallarta. Vamanos!

More perfect than you can believe. Everywhere we went people were saying "We've never seen it this clear!"

STP is great fun! Did it last year. A couple of suggestions: put a bell on your bike. Much easier to ring a bell than having to say "On your left, on your right" over and over. (They don't make bells for oversize handlebars yet though; only the 26-mm diameter.)

Don't drink from the REI water stations unless they put filters on their set-ups this year. Last year they had garden hoses connected to plastic plumbing tubing (I think they bought the tubing for bathroom plumbing instead of kitchen plumbing--very different!), connected to the water faucets. Filled up at one of those stations and drank polymer-flavored water for the next 20 miles. Blech!

We did it last year as well and had a ball.
And now I will be wearing 50+ gear, so keep an eye out for me.

I just checked the Portland forecast and its going to be warmer there than in Seattle which is normal so the farther south you get the warmer its going to be. There may be some morning clouds but once you get above the Puyallup valley up 72nd hill it will start to clear out. Nothing like riding in the Puget Sound area on a clear cool morning cause that means the Mountain will be out. Have fun wish I was going, twas just not to be this year.

Truer than most will admit. Too late though we've been discovered. :D

I think you're right. My wife kept saying "We need to move here."

I'm a California Zinfandel guy, but those darn Willamette Valley Pinots are pretty amazing.

My wife and I have ridden STP four times, but not this year. We always stop in Vader too (125 mi. approx.) and stay at the Assembly of God church there. Great people and a great deal for shower / dinner / place to sleep / breakfast!

I would like to ride it all in one day sometime, since it looks like an easy double, but haven't been able to talk my wife into that (though she does ride doubles here in CA).

You will have a great time, though, so no worries! A bit more climbing on the 2nd half, but better scenery too, so it's well worth it.

Yes, great weather lots of nice people. A NW classic. My son and a bunch of his friends and I are staying in Toledo at at school we have a classroom reserved.
