Foo - Septoplasty Sucks

Had to get my Septum repaired today and I must say it really sucks :cry:, but the meds are awesome:love:. At least this place did not use any nasal packing. Anyone else had to go through this and if so how long were you off a bike?? The Dr. said I had to stay off a bike for 10 days which is torture.

I had septoplasty back in 2000. I was really worried 'cause the few people I talked to who had it and doctors I first consulted all indicated it was a painful ordeal where my sinuses would be stuffed full of gauze for a week straight, and lots of bleeding.

Then I was referred to a Dallas doctor who took at look at my nose for a moment, calmly said, "you have a deviated septum -- I recommend surgery. You will have to take the day off from work for the surgery, and probably the next day as well." I was like, only TWO days?? Sho' 'nuf, the only packing they used was removed as soon as I woke up. I had a few light tubes that stayed in for a few days I think but I could breath thru them. Took them out, and all was well.

This guy had some technique that, at least at the time, not every MD was trained in. It was pretty simple, actually.

I broke my nose twice as a kid, at 24 had my devated septum operated on (back in the 1970s). I woke up with major pain, after 2 or 3 days some orderly time pulled out about 100 yards of dressing from inside my nose. The pain was beyond words, I started to pass out...later I found out that foam packing was the better way to go....swell

I went through that two summers ago, unfortunately I had a good deal of bleeding after the packing was removed, had a double hematoma and had to be repacked while I was awake...not pleasant. I was good as new a week later, though and after 31 years I was finally able to breathe through my nose. Best of luck for a speedy recovery.

Man hearing those stories really makes me happy I don't have packing. Its been about 5 years since I was able to breathe through the right side of my nose so i can't wait to recover. I broke my occipital lobe and deviated the septum playing an intramural flag football game back in college by running into one of my fraternity brother's head :injured:.

It was all part of a run of bad luck I was having that fall. Two weeks before the football injury I was bitten by a rather large Black Edge Morey Eel at work that left a large nasty scar and a cool way to break the ice at a party. Then another 2 weeks after the football accident I had a glass bust open as I was washing it which cut up the same hand the eel had bitten me on :bang:. So for a good couple of months I had stitches coming out and going in at the same time. Nurses kept asking me if I had troubles at home

I use the "Hey honey, you want to see where the eel bit me?" line all the time. Works like a charm.

I bet it was that same hand that caught the ball during the flag football game too.

Heal up and enjoy the pain meds. Make sure to start an "Ask the stoned guy" thread once you are well and truly "sedated".
