Tour de France - What I've learned during this year's tour...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've learned that maybe $13.95/mo for TiVo really IS worth it.

i'm tempted to buy the ShamWow! 8 shamwows for only 19.95!!!
I always think that commercial is a parody, every time I see it.
I mean nobody seriously does commercials with the mall kiosk headset setup. Do they?

I learned that Amy Winehouse has decided to get herself straight, make a brand new start, and is now working for Progressive.
Oh yeah, and if a 2,000 pound bull steps on you, something's gotta give.
Also, you're exposed to about 2,000 pounds of bull during three weeks of commercials.

I've also learned that contrary to what's shown on the map, there's only one road to Paris.
You're not really a champion until you defend your title. For me to lose, someone's going to have to pummel me.

I've learned that Tapout was just obnoxious and heinous enough to get great ratings, and there'll be another season. Any of those 'tards would make me cry like a little girl in hand-to-hand, but that's okay because it would give me much greater pleasure to shoot them all in the face.
Especially the guy in the boonie hat.
I've learned that Tapout was just obnoxious and heinous ...
I remember that friggin' oversized rear window decal from back in the mid '90's out here. Thought it was some hardcore band. Still see lots of their gear around SoCal. Huntington Beach must be world headquarters for that sheit. Freaky knucklehead crews.
The 'Mask' and that other weirdo? I don't get whatevathehell they're dressed up as/acting like. Around the typical MMA crowd, I'd be leavin' the red feather-boa arm warmers out of my kit.
The VS is one odd channel.

geez, if i hear michelob tell me again that they've learned that my life isn't one-dimensional, i'm gonna go down to the grocery store and shoot all their beer bottles. has anyone tried michelob ultra? this is the worst stuff i've ever had. i'm too old to drink ****ty beer, and this stuff is the worst. a bartender once told me he couldn't even give the stuff away. really bad beer, really annoying commercial...strike two
That commercial reminds me why I: 1. Ride a Harley Davidson, 2. Fly colors, 3. Wear my hair in a mullet, 4. Drink Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Versus has started showing the last two of the advertising floats/vehicles that precede the riders. I want to see the entire parade without buying a recording or flying to France.
I learned the expression "lost his bottle" means something like 'lost his nerve,' and when I looked it up, I learned a bit more.

threadjack: i think Michelob Ultra is the world's biggest mystery. If it's marketed to people who exercise all the time, then why can't they drink regular beer? They should be marketing the Ultra to the fat idiots who sit on their asses all day, because they never burn off the calories.
I've learned that if I drink Michelob Ultra, my life will be multi-dimensional, but it will also be monochromatic. Seriously, what's with the blue filter? So annoying.

Michelob Ultra was a direct result of the Atkin's fad diet, and it is nasty, overpriced and near impossible to get drunk off of. Mich light on the other hand isn't bad as far as light beers go.
Oh, and I couldn't wait until they got rid of Al Trautwig until they actually did, and I had to sit through that young numbskull's ramblings.

Pardon me? Phil's pronunciation of French names and place names is excellent.

Back on topic, I've learned that Versus summary show appears to be minimally about showing you bicycle racing, and more focused on blurb, fillers, mojitos, turbos and cage fights. Sheesh. Whoever said it, Tivo FTW.
I've learned that even though they recycle the exhaust recycle the exhaust recycle the exhaust, SAABs still only get 18mpg city/27mpg hwy, whereas my FIFTEEN YEAR OLD Toyota gets 35/40.
Yeah. Try this one one for size:
When shopping for a new car, I consider fuel efficiency; so I never consider a SAAB.

It's not healthy to taunt Big Foot
The guy mixing drinks behind the bar is the engine that creates all the dancing. If he stops mixing, the dancing stops.

I like how Saab "Recycles Exhaust" because it makes their cars "green". I looked into this breakthrough technology and then discovered they'd found a novel way to incorrectly describe a garden variety turbocharger.

I want to go to that bar.
And yes, the repetition of the Saab turbo ad's are mind-numbing.

As someone fluent in both English and French, I'm not really noticing Phil butchering French. Maybe it's there, but it's not standing out for me.
Any noteworthy examples?
Maybe it's some language(s) other than French he's having problems with?
For the record, I find the commercial complaints oddly heartening. The first time I watched the Tour on OLN Canada, they had 3 sponsors - Bowflex, Subaru and Cervelo.
Nobody else had a single commercial for the whole tour.

Here's a word to the wise: the unique thing about French is how individual syllables are not given a particular stress in the same way that they are in other languages. If you knew anything about French instead of making ridiculous comments about something you clearly know nothing about, then you would have noticed that Phil Liggett, far from Anglicizing French words and names, actually gives them enough of a Gallic reading to satisfy any French-speaker who might be listening. While he may indeed be inconsistent now and then (though I haven't noticed myself), on the whole he does an excellent job on French names as a non-native speaker of French. Your criticisms are misplaced and ignorant.
