Today I was at the local "bike kitchen", touching up my commuter. A tall young man was working on his bike; his chain had parted and he was attempting a repair. The frame was labeled "Landshark" and looked pretty nice. On closer inspection it was a hodge podge of parts. The crank was a riveted old Shimano ATB triple, shifters were 8 spd Tiagra. The fork was some kind of threadless, inch and an eighth mountain bike fork with caliper brakes, accommodating a 700c road wheel. This in a frame designed for a threaded, one inch headset. What the? There was no headset whatsoever!
The more I think about it, the more blown away I am. I worked in bike shops, on and off, for 15 years, so it's not like I just fell off the turnip truck. Has anybody else ever seen such a thing.
