ok, i just got my trek 520 back from the LBS. i brought it there in the first place to see if they can fix my rim. The rim had a bump were the brake pads go. they said taht i have to get a new rim. so now i am need some help to get a new rim. what rim would you people recomend for a touring bike? i think ill probably change both front and back to make it uniform, i don't know, but the rear needs replacement for sure. thanks in advance.

MAVIC T221 36 HOLE, not sure if these are
still available, they can take an enormous amount
of abuse, I've hit bricks, holes etc and not a dent yet.

Sun CR18. Best bang for the buck. Strong, cheap and not to heavy.
I go with with CR18s as well, same reasons as riderx.
Also, check to see what the stock hubs are. If they're joytechs or some no-name shimano, it's not really worth the expense of building wheels around them.

Anyone out there still use the concave Weinmann rims?? They were suppose to be bombproof.

Mavic T520 - very strong
I got one of these, and yea, they are good, but I still break spokes. Could have to do with weight distribution, but you might want to go with a 36 spoke high end. Don't go cheap or you'll regret it out there when your tire is rubbin on your frame and you forgot to pack a chain whip..Ohh....but I'm not bitter. :D

I have built up several CR18 rims, all good wheels.
Course I have a RynoLite 700c rear wheel too, looks funny with anything less than a 28mm tire, prefect with a 32 or 35.
