It is a pretty bike but someone still has to pedal it (which judging from the pic you do quite well).

Nice bike.

What were the original cranks? Do you think the CF SLK's were worth it?

And going back to your other thread on forks, I'm not seegin any difference between your frame, and the current RObusta, just eyeballing it. Which makes me think you could use the Alpha Q if you wanted. Of course a few mm's may not be apparent in a pic, but still affect how it would handle.

Robusta came original with FSA aluminum cranks but SKL is way stiffer crank aspecially out of the sadlle efforts you can feel direct power to the pedals, litlle bit lighter and of course it's carbon and looks great!

Wheels, dr, pedals and b.b. shifters & frame are only none carbon parts on our bike, I remember just 10 years ago when carbon frame it was main carbon part on the bike as well as fork .

With 44t you can be over gear on some steep shorter climbs & with 12x27 can be tricky to find right cadence.
i have used 40 & 42 and thsy worked better for us.
You buy from FSA triple tandem with single road bike set up 53-39-30 and you end up another set up 54 or 55 t and 40-44 t for midlle, I thing its marketing move ! more money for FSA, but hey you can use all thet back on your road bike right!

Becouse the FSA carbon bars ( heavier than most carbons but more comfort with more opende hand on the tops are wort it extra weight ) this tanem weights 28.5 lbs we are about 300 lbs

As far as forks, I am still debating the lower bottom bracket isue and uick steering etc.. We raced on track, road for years and getting use to difrent handling is not new to us, but using this original Wound up fork for apst 4 years i never had problem with , its strong, compliant, it will curve tight turns very nice ( we ****erstern all sharp turns with inside knee down and upper body out of turn and this fork with 44-45 rake just curve turns very nicly )
First two years we had isue with rear dr shifitng and I tried everything, rear hanger tool to use put new dr hanger but it was very simple " cable " not using teflon coated cable we had shifting iasues, after switching to teflon coated one its all great now!

Would love to try carbon tandem frame since both of us are riding carbon road bikes for past 7-8 seasons.

Best,

Do you know what the SLK tandemCF cranks weigh? I've heard, but not had confirmed, that they are actually heavier than the alloy FSA tandem cranks.

Fsa Slk Triple with 53/39/30 rings weight is 935 grams

Gossamer Triple 53/39/30 rings weights is 1055 grams

Above the weights are from FSA catalog.

Drive train cranks ( carbon ) should be lighter as well I would think so.
FSA Sl-K chainrings are also better quality and lighter.

Very nice bike. Upgrades are very closely in line with my way of thinking. I just stopped a little bit earlier. I guess for you the only logical next step is a Calfee. Tempting isn't it?

Yeah, Calfee is the way to go next & perhaps I might do it, yoiu just have to explain to your wife.
Problem is wife knows to much about bikes, frames etc..
