I've heard of people taking threadless 1" steel forks and getting them cut and threaded. Is it possible/safe to do the same with a fork using an aluminum steerer?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, i asked in SSFG and got little response.

It's certainly possible, though I don't know if it's recommended. Aluminum is so soft, I'd be worried that the threads wouldn't hold up over time... You might do a search and see if you can find a commercial fork with a threaded aluminum steerer. I did a quick one and all I could find were threaded steel steerers.

aye thats what i was seeing as well... though i'm wondering the kind of pressure it would take to rip the threads out... even though its aluminum... i wish someone could come along with a definitive answer =)
