Last summer I purchased a new road bike with the intention of losing some weight and regaining the freedom I had in my younger days. At the time of the purchase I weighed in at 215lbs on my short 5'7" frame. With a steady regiment of running and cycling I was able to get my weight down to 205lbs but could not get any further with just exercise alone.
Fast forward one year. After getting some serious chaffing in my undercarriage I had to stop cycling for a few months. Unfortunately this also coincided with some knee problems I recieved from constantly running on uneven pavement. I was bummed as I could no longer participate in the activities I grew to love. I started smoking again and the most active part of my day became the short walk to work. I thought my goal of getting my weight under control was slipping away.
In February I had a rather minor surgery on my jaw (fourth on in the past six years) and my eating habits changed. Not that I eat different (healthy) foods now, I just eat less. Last month I finally found the bathroom scale (my girlfriend "cleaned" the appartment and stashed it away so I wouldn't obsess about my weight) and discovered I had lost 12lbs without doing anything.
With my current weight at 192lbs I may no longer qualify as a clyde, but on my smallis/short frame I still have a ways to go before I would consider myself healthy. The bike is back on the road (still working on getting a new saddle) and I am feeling more positive about the rest of the summer.
You guys/gals have been very inspirational for me and I will continue to treat this section as my home.
