Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well... For every one Dahon reccomendation, there are two Downtube fans.

Food for thought: That's because the bulk of the Dahon riders frequent the Dahon forums (http://www.dahon.com/forum)

... that said there are riders here who have tried both, or frequent both forums, but I find BF Folding Bikes is much more heavily weighted towards Downtube etc. And obviously the Dahon forum is more heavily weighted towards Dahon. Many non-Dahon brands are clearly good products, attested to by numerous users, but I wouldn't weigh the absence of Dahon fanboys in this forum as an indication of anything.

Do you think you could fit two 20s in the the Honda trunk?

We can fit two 20 Dahon's in our Acura EL (rebranded Honda Civic)

You asked what bike one would get if you could only get one folding bike, and my preference would be for the 20's... I think a smaller wheeled bike could be fun, but I'd rather have it as an extra bike. Like I wouldn't want a convertible for every day use, but once it while it might be fun on a sunny day. For the record we have two 20's Dahon's... and the only thing I might be interested in trying instead would be a mini-velo like a Dahon Hammerhead (impossible to get), some of the ultra expensive japanese mini-bikes like Tyrell ($$$) or perhaps a custom Swift (Xootr or the steel one). But these either aren't folders at all, or they have limited folding utility.

cheers.

Buy a Mini and be happy, use any extra money to upgrade it. New saddle and handgrips and you have a bike for the next 10 years almost as good as a Brompton. :)

Another mini owner here (seems like these posts bring out all of the mini owners!)

Color - not thrilled with it but it's growing on me. Paint seems to chip easily. I've supplemented the bike with a lot of black components. Mint + black = decent combo.

Upgrades are easy. But you do not get a rack or fenders standard, as you would with a Curve D3. Those are easy additions - just buy the Dahon parts. Tires are said to be inferior to the big apples on the Curve D3. Upgrading tires would cost $65 or so. OTOH you get the 8 speed IGH and suspension (big pluses)

Carrying capacity - I use a Dahon rack and ziptie a Wald 585 Rear Rack Basket to it. This lets me carry a laptop + clothes + lunch easily. The load is relatively low and centered, I don't notice it when riding. Major positive of this approach is that you can fully fold the bike with no problems, no impact on the fold.

I'm happy with my DT except for one quality issue - stem is wobbly- I'm going to send it in to Yan as soon as the weather gets really bad. If I had to do it over, I might spend 2x the price on a lighter weight bike, maybe a Dahon Mu SL... but if I were limited to my existing budget, I'd buy the mini again.
