Mountain Biking - Now I've seen everything

I went to a bike shop today, just to window shop (kinda bored), and saw this huge mountain bike,. This thing was a beast! dual suspension, 8 inch disc hydraulic barkes, 30 inch wide handle bars, and prolly the biggest thing I noticed were the huge 29" inch tall tires!!!!!! It said on the side wall 29 x 2.25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*&%$#@! insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The aluminum tubing used for the frame was like 3.5 inches in diameter!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Well it was either a "beast" of a Fisher, or you really did see something unique! :D

I wish that Fisher still made the 29er in a hardtail. But I guess I'll just have to settle with a Cake one day...

alot of people up in maine ride the 29inch wheel
I have tried one and i liked it
it rolls over stuff better
It climbs really good
it does take more energy to get it moving but once it is it keeps going because it rolls over everything better
its not higher the bb is arount the same height as other bikes

the only reason i wont get one is because the wheels are not all that strong

They're just trying to start a new niche in selling to the public. Especially aimed at those dumb butts who don't know what they want. Yeah, this bike might do OK on the pavement, although I'm pretty sure it's heavier than the low 20 lb's max on any roadbike. I have a set of Aero wheels and city slickers tires that I used to swap out on my hardtail mtn.bike when I wanted to ride on the pavement, but believe me when I tell you that even a low-end roadbike would be alot better that any setup to a mtn.bike for street cycling. The geometry, weight, gearing, just about everything is totally different for obvious reasons.

My advise: don't fall victim to Fisher's gimmick plan to lure unknowing riders toward this heap of a bike. For $1500 you could by a helluva good road or D/S mtn.bike. You can actually buy a med-priced one of each as far as that goes....

dude you have no clue the 29inch wheel may not be for you but the are a butt load of people around my area that ride the 29in wheel. Personaly I think it is a great thing. I will never own one but there is a group in my area that swear by them. Hey also i ride with a few of them. the 29in wheels hold up to the bog rides that we do on mondays and wednesdays. (the bog is not actualy a bog it is just what we call it) but out in the bog there is some of the most technical riding you will ever see and these guy pushing the 29 are going strong.

The 29inch wheel is more of a personal thing, but I know for sure that this is not a gimmic and that these bikes are made to go off road with.

the only people that should not have the 29in wheel are bike beaters and huckers
but otherwise they are great xc bikes

wouldn't finding a new 29 inch wheelset be a bit hard?..just like the 1.5 inch headtubes...new or replacement parts are hard to come by

I've only seen the wheelsets a couple of places, but hey, if it fits your riding style better and you're willing to look for the parts, why not?

Gimmick? Certainly way less so than the landrider, if at all.
