Great Lakes - N.E. Ohio riders, are any of you doing....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. The Akron Bike club "A beautiful country ride" on sunday the 13 of july or the medina bike club "ice cream odyssey" on saturday the 19 of july.
Thought we could meet, and at least start out together for a little bit of company.

More than likely no. But it's still on my 'things i can do this weekend list'. I also can try the Shreve road race, the VK mtb night race, or ride MSP on Sat. But after doing any of those, I don't see myself riding 100 miles the next day. Guess I'll know for sure this weekend.

Possibly doing the ABC, just not sure yet if schedule allows. Love to ride along a while if possible.

Unfortunately, I won't be riding the Ice Cream Odyssey but I will be the one doing ride support. Look for the Century Cycles van. Stop by and say hello. It's a fun ride and it's getting bigger (and better) every year. What could be better than riding your bike and eating ice cream? Plus a cookout and more ice cream at the end. See you there!

Anyone else make this one? Turned into quite the little mini-epic. Torrential downpours, winds, heat, crashes on railroad tracks, flooding induced detours. Was keeping an eye out for Charlton Heston there for a while.
All in all my favorite ride of the year so far. Excellent route, with just enough challenge, and good scenic roads would make for an outstanding good weather route. Ride had the feel of epic challenge, while being forced to make that 62 or 100 mile decision early in the ride, right after the downpours, just added to the fun. Definitely a re-do for next year.
cheers

I hear ya, spent a half hour in my driveway deciding whether to go or not. With vacation coming up, and no riding the next two weekends, talked myself into it.
Pretty meagre for the 100, only saw about 10 others, (if the guy with the mountain bike, tennis shoes and full rain coat is out there, and you survived, you've got my total respect dude :thumb:). 62 miler seemed well attended, think a lot of people waited for the early rain to pass and just started late. Century rest stop crews were pretty eager to see anyone show up. They all had that Tom Hanks CastAway look :twitchy:.

Leinad and myself were on the phone to each other at 5:00am trying to decide what to do. Between the wind we encountered later in the day and the morning rain and I am thinking still that we made the right call by doing our own ride at noon. That wind from the west was especially ferocious Sunday afternoon. I was hating it during our 50 miler. I could only imagine doing a century in it.

Guess I'm just stubborn enough to enjoy the nastiness. I remember thinking at the 62/100 split that this might really hurt, and smiling just a little as I drained the water out of my rims. The wife thinks I'm nuts, but those are the ones I remember and appreciate.
