i left work today around 6pm. the temperature here in nyc is about 8 with a wind chill of -15 or so.
the streets are filled with frozen mush and it's totally disgusting out.
i'm standing at herald square on 6th and 34th, waiting to cross the street when i see a cyclist coming down the block. he's riding fixed, no brake, dressed all in black and obviously a pretty diehard rider.
he's flying towards the intersection, locks up the wheel and skids for easily 25 feet and comes to a perfect stop and does a motionless track stand for about 40 seconds and then takes off when the traffic stops. all on this horrible, windy and brutally cold night.
i wanted to cheer this guy on... things like this make me feel so happy to be riding fixed gear in nyc, even if i'm a member of the front brake, 30 degree and over posers club.
