Ok.. all i can say is Fuuuuuuuuuuudge!

I started with a 15.4 mile bike ride the goal was to keep an avg of 18miles per hour at the least. The loop i rode has a few hills but nothing spectacular. I handled the riding well and felt good at that pace.. My computer showed 17.4 as the avg but i think that was the brief human traffic slow downs thru the trail.

I finished with the ride and locked the bike up, change my shoes put some shorts over my SHORTS and off i was.. the route i chose was 2.2 miles .. so i'm off my legs feel unstable but not hurting.. mind you this is a trot/jog and not sprinting ahhaa..

then about 200 yards and fuuuuuuuuuuuuddddgggggeeee... walk walk walk pant pant pant run ........ walk walk walk pant pant pant.. hahah you get the point..
I didnt time myself as i just getting started but it was pretty hard coming off the bike... running is tough anyways for me being 370ish (i know i was that last year too.. and the winter pushed me into old habits, but i'm back)..

Anyways.. i feel like i can do it.. and get better .. but it was a shock.. and i;m sore like nobodys business..

Lets do this TEAM CLYDE!

You got more guts than me. I like to bike, but running...... that's another story. In fact if you ever see me running, you should run too, because that means there is a crazy guy with an axe somewhere close by. My wife is currently training for a tri in September. Not my thing, but I got to hand it to any one who does it. Good job!

A buddy at work is trying to talk me into doing tris with him. I can ride and I can run, but I swim like a rock.

Good for you for doing it!

How's your running when you don't do a hard ride first? Do you walk fast first, then trot, then jog or just go straight into the jog?

Hint: At the end, drop into a lower gear and spin fast to get the circulation restored to your muscles a bit and loosen back up. If you have to, just walk the run segment, believe me, there will be plenty of people doing it. ;) After your legs steady up, then break into a gentle trot and go back to a walk. It's going to take you some time, believe me, I know. The goal of Tri is to compete against yourself anyway, so your first one is only setting a baseline for improvement.

Your goal for the first one is to simply finish it......and you'll be whupped just from that.

By the way, you're doing the right thing, doing bricks and even in the right order, cycle, then run on one day, swim then cycle on another and alternate. Don't forget recovery time either.

My running is about the same i may be able to go further but i still end up
trot,jog,walk

I usually start of walking briskly and then work my way into a jog.

If it makes you feel better, I'm just about at the same point. I can push myself to do the ride (somewhat) fine, but the run still kills me every time. I'm going to follow what Tom said and use this tri as a baseline. My goal for this tri is to just finish. A lofty goal is to finish in under two hours. :)

am worried about.. I've been watching some youtube videos on effeicient swimming.. i can swim but i'd rather make the energy i use more efficeint.

Running at 370 isn't going to be easy no matter what. It's also going to be tough on your body, so take it easy. I started out with months of walking and eased into a job walk combo over quite a few months. As you get lighter the running will become significantly easier.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to. Family obligations, ya know. :( (Pesky Mom!)

Word. I love running, used to run 6 miles nightly when I was 17.... it sad to see how far I've fallen in the past five years, but I suppose losing all this will be more of an accomplishment than all that running ever was. I can't wait to start again, but I won't run until I drop below 250... even then, I'd be worried about my knees a bit. You're a brave man running at 370, and I wish you the best of luck!

I might give a tri a shot next year, they sound kind of fun, or at least challenging :thumb:

I am planning on doing a Sprint Tri in Syracuse Indiana on Aug 23, though.

Syracuse, IN is a bit far for me, but I heard about this really sweet Olympic distance tri at Purdue at the end of September. I say we all do that one together. ;)

Chunkyd - Do you have a swimming pool or YMCA near you? Ask them if they have a swimming coach that you could hire to work on your stroke if you really are worried about it. Remember on the tri that you don't have to only swim in "Front Crawl" also known as free style. You can swim anything you want.

I went from over 360 down to 235 and went from hardly walking two miles to running 5k events. I also swim, lift weights, elliptical, bicycle, etc....... My RHR went from 75+ to 50 or less.

Just keep working on it slowly and it will improve. Just remember to gain no more than 10% of your distance per week and even that will be very difficult.

Keep up the good work and have a great time getting there and then completing your first tri!!!!
