I hav Shimano 600 brake levers and cannot seem to find any affordable hoods for them...i found some on ebay but they are around $40.

Yeah, it seems like often the hoods for these older levers are as expensive as the levers themselves. I have on older pair of Dura Ace levers that I never did find hoods for. I'm using a mismatched Ultegra pair. They're functional, but ghetto-looking.

I just found some Cane Creek hoods for those same levers at an LBS for $10.
They are brown, not gum, which I would have preferred, but it beats the heck out of no hoods at all. When I get home I will see if I can find the product number.
