Hi, I've been reading this great Forum and just had to join. I tried biking a few years back, but put it on hold due to a Hip problem. I had the hip replaced and I'm back again. I live on top of Lookout Mt.(Cloudland, Ga.), and have plenty of great places to ride, both here and in the vally. Hope to learn more from this Forum, and the many knowledgable, and helpful readers. You guys are doing a great job, thanks a lot.

Welcome.
What bike(s) do you have?
Do you ride with one of the clubs in Chattanooga or just do local rides?

Wow! Thanks for the quick replys from both Bike dud and Ron H. I have two hybirds, a Trek 700 (1993), and a 7600. I belong to the club in Rome,CVCA. I plan to be active this spring in their rides. About Oct.1st., a bent rider from Trenton told me about a Century being held in Claxton, Ga. He said it was fun, and a good ride for first timers. I laughed as I told my wife of the offer, there's no way I can ride 100 miles. She said "I'll bet you can". I slept on it , and started increasing my base the next day. I was working hard and doing bad on my hybird. I received good advise and encouragement from my LBS. What I really needed was more day light hours. With my speed, I would be hard pressed to finish 100 miles by closing time. I told the new shop owner my problem, I must need a bigger gear. All the while he was rolling out new Road Bikes onto the floor. Try this one he said, it's much faster than what you have now. Oh, I don't think I need a fast Road Bike. I just need to go further in the same amount of time. I was fitted, and tried out an entry level bike, a black Trek 1000. All the bad I was told about wedgees disapeared. Now I had 30 days to go before the century, and a lot of miles to build. Now when I call on the bike, she goes, and can she go. In 30 days we "bonded", this is a magic bike, I've got to find a perfect name for this special lady. I went to Claxton with my new Bike. I named her Mariah, Black Mariah. We completed the century in 6 Hr. 32mins. I know that's not fast for most of you guys, but it felt good to me. And next time I'll do better. ...YOU KNOW THEY CALL THE WIND MARIAH.

Great story. Your friend was correct the Claxton century is a great one. The CVCA does a good century every May. I love the route and the scenery, although the 100 mile is a tad hilly. You have a lot more time to get ready for ours. We do the Beautiful Backroads Century in September, you'll have to put it on your calender for 04.

Was that Bob's Bike shop in Rome you were talking about in your post?

It is a good feeling to be hired after a period of unemployment.
