Tandem Cycling - Mongoose Wanderer $250 tandem (has an eccentric! woot!)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I noticed someone selling one of these locally on Craigslist:

http://cgi.ebay.com/MONGOOSE-26-Wanderer-AL-Tandem-R5006-Bike-Bycicle_W0QQitemZ350077058175QQcmdZViewItem

Of course the CL seller wanted $250 for it

Looks like one of the better iterations on the cheap tandem theme. They're not using an idler pulley, seem to be employing a real eccentric. Wheels are probably not tandem-rated, but still...

What do you think?

I think tandems are great, and I would recommend my casual hybrid-riding-on-the-bike-path friends to try something like this Wanderer. How about you?

(Not for me, I'll stick with my $650 1998 Cannondale in great condition)

Hard to see how that thing could get up to 57 pounds. But given the price, I believe the weight more than the other specs.

57 pounds is the "shipping weight" in another listing I found.

That is identical to the Pacific Duece AL including the paint and decals (other than the brand/name decals) Mine new was $149.99 at Meijer a few years ago.
