I sold the wheelset that came with my Windsor Hour yesterday, right before I dropped the frame off for powdercoating. So now I need wheels. I am 6'4" 265lbs & wanted some triple black deep Vs, but Velocity's pricing is too high.

So I have narrowed it down to Weinmann DP-18 in all black with Formula hubs for $180 (ebay) shipped which would mean that I would have to buy tires, tubes, cog, lockring ($75 shipped from universal). So alltogether like $255

Or I can get an Alex R-450-B wheelset in black (with lockring) with the same Formula hubs for $99, add tires, tubes, cog all from Ben's Cycle for like $175 shipped.

Does anyone have experience with either or both of these wheelsets & would the Weinmann's warrant the extra cost over the Alex's?

Thanks!!

Mavic CXP22 to Formula hubs $155 (http://shop.greatdealsonbikes.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=GDOB&Product_Code=TR10&Category_Code=TR) is what I would recommend

Anyone know where I can buy only a REAR wheel at comparable prices to those above?

I would probaly go witht he Mavic/formula wheelset as well, but if you want to stick to your original two choices, I would say the Alex Rims, because they are cheaper, and I don't think the Weinmanns are any better, and definatley not $75 better.

Thanks Jeff. I thought the same. I can get the Weinmanns in silver for $100 but I want black.

I just pulled the trigger on the Alex wheelset. I figure at $99 a set in black with lockring (plus I sold my Windsor wheels for $85) I couldn't go wrong.

I'll post my findings once they arrive & I roll them.

i have had both an 450 front and a dp18 front and the r450 is better for the money. you'll enjoy them.

I'm glad you didn't get the DP-18's

I was gonna get those instead of Velocity(ies?)...But then I saw some V's and then the DP's side by side and I changed my mind fast.

I recommend changing out the lockring. I bought just the backwheel, the first time i tightened it down it was so flimsy it got all chipped up.

Same thing happened with my Formula lockring. It was hella soft as I think it was aluminum. Even tho I chewed it up tightening it with a vice grip, it stayed put after the rotafixa method was done.

chase.

included lockrings are garbage unless you bought ellipses, or paul or phil hubs.

I am uber happy I didn't go with the Weinmann DP-18s, especially after seeing them in person. The Alex R-450 are superior in every way :)
