Vaughters said during his interview on Versus that Garmin is trying to sign a new rider - one guy in specific. Bob Roll confirmed, and said the rider's initials are "C.E."

Any idea who this might be? Not Cadel.....

I hope so. I was looking for another reason to dislike this team.....

If you can think of a rider besides Cadel with the initials 'C.E.' then share it with us, won't you?

How much would you have to ante up for Cadel, the heir apparent to the Yellow Jersey? I'd say $2 million + annually for 3 years no problem, even in this tarnished sport. That's big bucks for a pro cycling program. .

Garmin does have the money. They're not that big, but they're big enough, they have a ton of cash, and they're very profitable.

How are they very profitable... are you talking in terms of return for the sponsors?

mmm...signing Cadel sounds rather stupid to me. If all goes right he wins the Tour this year, his salary jumps through the roof. Next year there's a decent chance Contador comes back into the picture as well as Basso. Would be one hell of an empty bag to pay that much coin for someone looking at 2nd or 3rd.

Well the options are Christophe Edaleine (AG2R) and Cadel Evans out of the ProTour and Pro Continental teams. Not sure about domestic ones though...

If Garmin profits are $600 million EACH QUARTER I think they can afford the $10-$15 million annually to sponsor a cycling team, particularly given the marketing exposure that results.

It's Carmen Electra.

Looks great, lots of media attention, high strung bit of a head case, career is pretty disappointing.

I think they already signed one of those.

Good one.

A young guy with some experience in Europe (Domo-Farm Frites)...that's how you build a team.

You guys assume Cadel is going to win....his team has been nowhere to be found when the pressure is on and we haven't hit the real climbs yet. When we hit the high mountains Cadel is going to completely isolated and Valverde and Kirtchen are going to have strong teams to support them. Cadel will be looking for a team that can support him for next year and that team wont be Lotto.

Similar situation for Basso, he'll have no team support, even if he's allowed to ride next years tour. Contador will be the clear favorite in 09.

Well, you were right about Silence-Lotto being hard to find today, but you sure were wrong about the other two....

No kidding! I just got back from a ride and I'm hungry...I'll start eating my words now...Still you gotta admit that CSC worked the field over today. If they can continue doing this Cadel is in some trouble. SL cannot protect him and CSC still has Sastra to play against him. All in all I gotta give Cadel his due though.
