Always loved going fast on bikes, especially down mountains or pacing behind trucks and buses, so I was wondering......my R20 has an 8 spd SA hub in 451 rims with a 48t chainring and a 25t rear gog, 8th gear is quite tall, what if I installed that spare 58t chainring I have and get a friend to pace me behind a car or motorbike, I wonder what speed I can achieve?
Don't worry about me not being able to turn the cranks with such high gearing, my best pacing speed behind a bus on a flat road is 78.5kmph and I needed more gear inches.

Maybe, but by my demented calculations I should get well over 80kmh with the 58t x 25t...that's enough on a R20

12 on the back; 62 on the front, with Schlumf Speed-drive in the Bottom bracket.

That thought scares the hell outa me....I reckon I'd break 180kmh if that happened :eek:

Ive done an an average speed of over 40 mph for 5miles flattish road
also done an average of 21mph for 53miles to Aberdeen. Not very flat. reved out in top going past Stonehaven.
But that was on my Bob Jackson road bike. With a 52 X 13 with 700c size sprints and tubs
that bike flew and I was a little bit fitter then :)
Have seen 38mph on my grifter on the beach
thats a similar bike to the shopper
