Road Cycling - Would You Buy These?

Hey Everyone,

I've been on the hunt for some sunglasses that fit my rather puny head. After trying on lots of Rudy Projects, Oakleys, Smiths, etc. I've found only two styles that fit my face and would be an adequate replacement for my old shades(smith toasters).

1. Oakley Half Jacket XLJ 2. Oakley Lance Armstrong Edition

Here's the thing though: The main reason I'm discarding my Smith Toasters is because they're fogging up like crazy, I think partly due to the fact that they sit so close to my face(those of you who own these will understand what I mean). I wanted some sunglasses that wouldn't fog, I tried on lots of pairs, looking for a pair that sat far enough off my face while not being waaay to big for my head. These 2 were the best I could do. I really like the XLJ's, and I could find them online for a fairly reasonable price. However, there is no venting in the lenses like the Lance Armstrongs so I'm wondering if I'd be in the exact same boat if I bought them(with the fogging that is). Also the Lance Oakleys are outrageously more money than I think they're worth so I had pretty much ruled them out until...

I got the chance to pick up a pair of Lance Armstrong shades for about $140 including shipping, making the price a lot more reasonable. I'd be spending about 20 bucks more on these if I bought them.. is it worth it or do you think these shades are all marketing and not much substance? What would you do?

The vented G30 Hybrid S lens that comes with the LA Oakleys is fantastic. I have one for my Pro M Frames and it's the most versatile lens I own. No fogging issues for me.

I got the chance to pick up a pair of Lance Armstrong shades for about $140 including shipping, making the price a lot more reasonable. I'd be spending about 20 bucks more on these if I bought them.. is it worth it or do you think these shades are all marketing and not much substance? What would you do?

If you really really liked it and really needed it in your situation, i will go ahead and purchase it regardless of the price. Price and marketing is not what you go by with. You go by with what makes you feel good about buying one. If you buy the second choice, theres always a posiblity of saying " i wished i bought the half jacket xlj2 lance armstrong oakleys " and we do it often. BUY WHAT YOU THINK IS BEST FOR YOU.

I have a small cranium too. 6 3/4 hat size. I have found the best sunglasses for me that fit snug and fit under the helmet straps I bought for my 5 yr old son at walmart from the kids rack. Uva and uvb rated, comfortable, and only cost $8 and everyone ask where I got my cool aerodynamic, lightweight specs. Holes in the ear stems to prevent fogging and no uncomfortable earpieces. At some tris I have people assume they were some exotic brand that cost $200 and ask me if I liked my (brandname) and was it worth it.

Hahah that's hilarious!!! I'll have to head to walmart and try them on!

You might try the Bolle Parole sunglasses. I have the larger version, the Vigilante, that I use with prescription inserts. Fogging hasn't been an issue so far with them. I bought the glasses from Nashbar for about $40, and that included gray and amberish lenses.

cons: smaller lens means less visibility in drops, a tad heavier
M-frames:
pros: really light, comfortable, big lens with good clarity, Rx compatible
cons:goofy looking for regular street use.

this has me tied up in knots, b/c this is a lot of money for some sunglasses, and I am unsure...

Ahh the woes of us sunglass buyers... How about I buy one set, you buy the other and we trade after 6 months! ;)

What's the best price you could find on the M Frames and the Half Jackets? I'm shopping around...

pros: good looking, good lens selection, comfortable
cons: smaller lens means less visibility in drops, a tad heavier
M-frames:
pros: really light, comfortable, big lens with good clarity, Rx compatible
cons:goofy looking for regular street use.

105 for the m-frames, 110 for the half-jackets. thats for plain black ones with one set of plain black lenses. thats at rei.
