Fifty Plus (50+) - My First Senior Discount

My wife and I were in the grocery store, and the pie-faced youth who was ringing us up said, "Are either of you over 55?"

My brave and honest wife, chirped, "Why yes, sonny. I am." (I'm close to 55, but not quite)

He said, "Well on Thursdays, people over 55 get a 10 percent discount."

Unlike my boss, who was insulted when a similar moment occured, I was elated. From now on, Thursday is grocery day.

I can't wait to get discounts either, but most of them around her you have to be at least 62.

If you stop at a McDonald's for a coffee, make sure to ask for a "senior coffee". Their new premium roast is almost as good as the specialty places now, and at $.75 or so a cup a real bargain. I have no idea what the minimum age is, but to the typical fast-food workers we all look ancient.

I tell them that if I look old enough for them to ask, then I'm old enough for the discount.

+1 I get senior coffee at Macs all the time. 39 cents plus tax, you can't beat it! I also make sure to get the senior discount at Goodwill (20% on Tuesday).

Last time I was asked my age was when I wanted Beer from a Supermarket.

I was old enough to be the Spotty Oinks Great grandfather. But he must have been given his legality talk that morning.

Right after my 50th I found out that the Factory Outlets offered 10% off on Tuesdays if you are 50. The first time I tried to use it I was carded. Those ladies became my new best friends. ;) Now if I have to shop I try to wait until Tuesday. Nothing like a few dollars saved to make one's day.

When I turn 54 I'll be eligible for some old driver's test and then an discount on my auto insurance. That might offset the points our son (who we carry on our policy, as long as he's in college) accumulated. I have no pride; I'll take it. Bring on the birthday!
