Mountain Biking - Sram Plasm D.I.R.T. Derailer

Has anyone heard of the Sram PLasm D.I.R.T. Rear derailer, it is supposed to be 205grams, I'm thinking of getting one for my Trek because it works with RapidFire and 7, 8 and 9spds. I found it on some discount parts sites, but there is no mention of it on Sram's site as far as I can see.

Sram phased it out when they made the 7.0 and 9.0 rear der. The technology was borrowed from it and improved on later to become the XO. They are fantastic derailleurs!

Yes, I checked on MTBreview.com and they seem to be highly reviewed. However most people complained that the Plasma was not very strong and often broke, however the Quartz which features many of the same design features was made alot stronger from what I understand. From the reviews I read it seems that they shift better then anything out there. The reason I asked is that my derailer packed it in on my bike and I'm looking for another one. I would perfer to keep as little Shimano components on my bike as possible so I was very intrested in these two derailers, as well as being very unique they seem to work very well too. I think I will get the Quartz, it is built stronger then the Plasma, however it is closer to 260 grams then 200, but it is still way lighter then the current derailer I have on my bike.

Yes from the research I've done, it seems that Sachs originally came up with the D.I.R.T derailer design, but then either Sram bought them out or they licenced the design to Sram, so Sram built them for a a couple of years. Now Sram is using the D.I.R.T. design in thier X0 derailer and the Sram 9.0 I believe.

Sram owns Sachs. Also yes in their time the Quartz rear der did outshift everything out there.

Quartz/Sachs made good stuff!
