I have a grader bike/trunk rack with the hooks and straps that I got used. It doesn't have the 'keepers' that I see on other racks around to hold the bike in place, nor did it ever, based on its construction. Do I just tie the straps around the top tube to hold it on there, or is there another, more secure way that has been tried and true in here?

+1. or velcro straps or toe straps or rope, etc. Duct tape probably not a good idea.

OK, so I didn't get a bum one, just one that didnt already have stuff on it to hold the bike in place. Ill look into some velcro-its pretty cheap, even for strong stuff.

Big cable ties work well, but for only one time. I had to resort to this when my wife came to retrieve my son after an accident, but left the bungee cords at home, and I had a pack of large ties from NAPA in the van.
