I have a pair of Bontrager Select Rims on my Trek 2200. They feel great!! What do you guys think? I just got them so I don't know if they are durable. Can anyone tell me? Im affraid they're going to give out on me. I weight about 200 lbs. So far so good on these.

Don't worry, William. I've got Bontrager Selects on one of my bikes - a Gary Fisher Utopia - and I weigh a little more than you. In two years, I haven't had any problems with them and they've been down rough dirt roads, through potholes, and have taken everything I've been able to throw at them. They're good rims and, at least in my experience, pretty much bomb-proof. I had the same concerns as you have with a lower spoke count wheel at first, but the guys at the LBS said that actually more stress is put on the hubs and rims than the spokes. I don't know if that's exactly true, but the wheels have performed admirably through a lot of less than perfect conditions. Enjoy your ride.

I've got select on my Klein Quantum. I've had the bike for two years and have a little over seven thousand on them. During the last century ride I did, I was in a pace line pushing about thirty when some newbie, two riders ahead, braked unexpectedly. The rider in front of me swerved right and I swerved left to avoid a collision. As I swerved my rear tire blew. Some of the tire got caught up in the brake, locking the rear wheel and causing it to come out of the drops. I rode the bike to a stop, rear wheel locked.
I figured my rim was toast and I would have to sag in. The director of my club rode up and asked if I had a spare tire. I had tubes, but no tire. He had an extra with him and offered it to me. So, I took the remains of a michelin off the rim and we inspected it. Yes it was ground down , but appeared to be runable. One of the riders from my club produced a piece of sand paper and we smoothed the burrs off of it. Then we put on a new tube and tire. Good to go. I'll probably replace that rim before the season starts in earnest, but I've got over five hundred miles on it since the mishap with out so much as a flat. By the way, I weigh in at 220 pounds so I'm no light weight.
I think you'll really like those rims. The bike too for that matter. If you take care of it, it will take care of you.
Good riding

This sounds wonderful! I was worried about Bontrager Race wheels being able to support my 240lbs, but if the Selects are that good, the Race should just as durable....one would hope!

Glad I caught this thread because I'm eyeing up a set of Selects to replace my cheap Alex rims this year.
