I was having trouble buying bikes that didn't fit me so I figured before I got anything nice I'd have to settle what can fit me. With that in mind I got this Trek 700 in pretty lousy shape for $50, but it was a big frame and would make a nice surrogate cyclocross bike till I was ready for a real one.
I then got some cheapo but OK wheels for $65 and then a whole 105 groupo for $100. Ritchey biomax, odds and ends and voila:

The front end is a mess:

No built-in derailluer hanger and this one- the bolt interfered with the chain in the smallest cog so I had to shave it down.

It's served its purpose perfectly and now I'm probably going to put some old friction/freewheel stuff I have on it and swap the 105 stuff to the new alu cx frame I got.
