Well this sux! Went to install my existing computer from my old bike to the new bike and it turns out it won't fit. Because the handlebar's diameter is 31.7mm the clamp won't go over nor will the sensor fit the bladed Litespeed fork. What am I to do? Anybody know of any cyclocomputers that fit these thicker wider bicycle parts that are much more common these days? I don't want to shell out a bunch of money so a basic one will do.

Well, Cateye made (I presume they still make it) a fairly cheap wired computer with a cadence display which routes the cable via the down tube to take revolution readings at both the crank arm and rear wheel. This would solve your fork problem. Of course you could simply retrofit additional wire to any wired computer or see if a wireless would register from the rear wheel.
I don't know about the handlebars. You could try those handlebar add-ons (designed to give extra 'bar' to clamp-on accessories) but then it might not clamp to your bars either.
Hope that helps.

I think you mean the Cateye Astrale. From what I remember of the handlebar mount, it should have no trouble with an oversized bar. Check at your LBS.

I don't know what your old cyclocomputer is, but I left my "old" Cateye Astrale on my old road bike (now my commuter) and installed a brand spanking new Vetta RT77 on my Litespeed Tuscany.  It matches the blue handlebar tape.

I don't know about the spokes problem but for the handlebars you might be okay with some of the Sigma models. Mine fits with a stretchy rubber ring.

Sorry I wasn't more specific. The computer in question is the Cateye HB-100. Visited Cateye's web page yesterday and saw that various different mounts are available for this model. Their site was of no use in providing an online vendor though. I'll try the LBSs before calling the customer center in CO next week.

I use a cheap Vetta C-16 on my Litespeed w/carbon fiber bladed fork. No problems with the mount on the handlebar, either.
You might also look at an Avocet. Instead of mounting a magnet way out on the wheel, they use a little ring that mounts right next to the hub, and a sensor down near the end of the fork.

Anyone paid up for an S series (510 or 710) polar cyclocomputer/HR trainer yet? A polar-compatable HR monitor would transfer over to erging so I wanted to know if anyone had used it.
Thanks

I have the S510. I think it's an excellent monitor -- with one or two reservations...
Its accuracy is excellent, and I like the fact that it's programmable for three zones. The memory -- full data of one workout, max, avg and stopwatch for five others -- is good. The fact that it's downloadable via mic to your PC, rather than by IR [like the S710] is a big plus, since it doesn't require additional interface hardware. The display is large, crisp and fairly customizable. I can't speak to the bike functions because I haven't used them yet, but it IS a wirely unit, which is very cool.
Now my reservations... It only records "datapoints" of your HR, and only at 30 seconds for workdouts of less than one hour, and 60 seconds for workouts of more than one hour. You can thus miss a lot of data. Moreover, the software is pretty crummy. Its PC Coach Lite, and it doesn't allow you to export data to ANY other kind of file and it's not very easy to customize records. It's also the only software that works with the "SonicLink" interface.
Is it worth the full price? I don;t know; I didn't pay the full price.

I just installed a Vetta RT77 on my old Schwinn Super Le Tour 12.2, very nice unit....so far!
With getting back into cycling after a long break, last year I started riding during my lunches, doing all my errands around town on the bike, which help with weight loss and all around improved health I'm sticking with it and this year I wanted to use a computer that also provided Cadence count as well, this one does, as I've read about everywhere to really improve and not blow your knees out, maintain the proper cadence...which I'll see how I do tomorrow! ;)

I have such Brain Power, that I don't even need one of those "Puters". I can calculate distance, cadence, speed, mileage, etc., just using my own brain power. Yes, I know, Im Amazing!!!
:( Im actually too poor to buy one of those fancy dancy Puters right now. But one day I will be able to know how far I really went!

RR,
Some can be had for as little as $20. Don't know how good of quality they are but I find them useful.
