A acquaintence is selling a rigid fork cromoly steel Giant Rincon mountain bike (the year of the bike is unknown). I'm 410#s.....is this something that I should be considering for using on light trails and paths?

If it fits you, I'd say go for it. The Rincon was a good bike back then and the rigid fork is actually better than a suspension fork for your purposes.

I used to have a Rincon in college-I weighed almost 300. I know that isn't your weight, but the bike held up to being my only vehicle for a 2 mile back and forth commute to campus and whatnot from my apartment. The fixed fork will be better for you (better for everyone in my opinion-I hate the 'bouncing feeling' from peddling and the wasted effort). Enjoy!
