Being a Clyde with room to spare I often overheat when riding, I'm also blessed/cursed with abundent body hair which tends to hold a warm layer of air next to me. Also it holds wicking fabrics away from my skin so they don't work well. Using hair clippers I shorten my arm hairs to 1/16" and my chest hair to 1/2", every year I'm supprised how much this helps keep me a cooler. Am I alone with this proablem?
PS: shaving is too high matainance for me, the clipper job is good for a month.

No, I don't think so, if I keep the hair under my arms trimmed, I find it easier to stay cool for whatever reason.

ummm with a warning for perhaps TMI... i find that shorter hair sometimes pokes through lycra, this can be embarrassing depending on where the location of this phenomena is occurring, but keeps it close to the skin.
PS i waxed my chest once and i had stubble in like 3 days... if it lasted the 6-8 weeks it promised it could be worth it, but certainly not for 3 days.

Wicking fabrics work when they'e right up against your skin, are you wearing loose shorts/shirts?

The would be if the mass of chest hair didn't hold it out, mine can grow to 2 inches long.

And I thought my once a week leg shaving was a chore.

on the positive side that layer of air will keep you warm in the winter:thumb:
I don't wear cycle clothing so I can't help with that but know the problem My better half won't let me go out with no shirt and bare footed in just shorts .she says someone might mistake me for bigfoot and shoot me:roflmao2:

In the warm summer months I'm very susceptible to miliaria, a kind of heat rash caused by sweat glands becoming blocked. As such I try to keep my chest and underarm hair trimmed as close as possible. I'm also lucky in that my fiancee is an esthetician so I'm able to have any hair on my back and shoulders waxed. As Heckler mentioned, initially it is possible to see stubble after a few days depending on the texture of your hair, but with regular waxings the hair begins to grow in with a finer texture, allowing longer time between waxings. I've found no reason to completely wax my chest, however, as trimming regularly keeps me cool enough.

To help deal with my heavy sweating, I sometimes shave my armpits. It helps, but it feels a little weird for a day or so.

The introduction of chest-waxing to this thread brings the chill of metrosexuality to the Clyde forum. I think we need the wisdom of Brad Paisley about now:
"These days there's dudes gettin facials,
manicured,waxed,and botoxed.
With deep spray-on tans and creamy lotiony hands,
you can't grip a tackle box.
Yeah, with all of these men linin' up to get neutured.
It's hip now to be feminized.
I don't highlight my hair.I've still got a pair.
Yeah,honey I'm still a guy.
Oh,my eyebrows ain't plucked
there's a gun in my truck.
Oh,thank god,I'm still a guy."

If you are looking for a more perminant solution, lazer hair removal has gotten really cheap and its alot less painful then wax.

I shave my pits...the rest of me stays hairy (well I shave my fave every day-electric razor). Started shaving the pits 6 years ago to help with hyperhydrosis (over-sweating) and just got use to it. About once a week is all i need to shave them, in the shower with soap and a cheap razor. really helps keep my pits smelling fresh ALL day! its amazing... In fact I cant stand hairy pits haha. Most girls ive met actually dont think much of it, they hate pit hair too.
i trim the shoulders every so often so i dont feel too out of place if i wear a sleeveless shirt...
