The stoker reluctantly agreed to try a group ride this weekend, got to give her a lot of credit with only about 300 miles on the bike in the last 3 months (or 25 years, for that matter). We learned several things:

1. The bike actually will fit in our 91 Toyota Corolla wagon! However,
2. We need to make sure it is braced so that it doesn't tilt and strike handlebars against the stoker's head.
3. Bike parts can get really hot sitting inside a car for an hour or so.
4. 42 ish miles was probably just a bit ambitious for the stoker. Which resulted in
5. 42 miles being just a little bit of a stretch for the captain, too. In part because
6. "relatively flat" means different things to different people. Which could be remedied if
7. Route profiles had expandable x-axes to allow a better inspection of the grade.
8. We really need to work on our climbing.
9. You can never have too much water along for the ride.
10. We needed to take in some calories somewhere along the route - breakfast got pretty lonely.
11. We really didn't need to worry about being the slowest team in the group.
12. The captain still doesn't enjoy shopping for clothes, even after a long ride, but he doesn't have enough energy left to complain about it.

All in all a very fun day. Many more lessons yet to learn.

Aw, I was hoping for something about the group. Only number 11 seems to apply.

OK....

#13 A group ride probably needs more than 12 tandem teams before it is likely that we will find someone riding at a pace near ours.

We did have a nice conversation with another team over lunch at the end of the ride.
