Can anyone help me out here? How is 'Dahon' pronounced. I sort of assumed it was Day-hon...only to be met with puzzlement and comments such as, 'Oh...Dar-hon'. So next time I say 'Dar-hon' or 'Dah-hon' only to be met with 'Oh...Day-hon.

It seems a 50-50 split on this and I'm tired of commiting cycling faux-pas. :(

I have no idea - I'm in the Dah-Hon camp like Trio's 80s pop hit 'Da Da Da' and am in UK if that's any help.

It's a start. By the way I know have that kitsch crap running through my mind...and probably will feature as the soundtrack to tonights dreams.

Since it is an amalgam of David+Hon, I've always pronounced it DAY-hon.

But I love Trio so if I'm wrong I won't mind at all!

My friend and I pronounced it Day-Hon but officially it's Dah-Hawn. On the Dahon forums, (where I asked and was linked to older threads), it seems that the population is split between Day-Hon (Which makes the most sense) and Dah-Hawn, the official pronounciation.

Back in the late 1980s SF Bay Area RV Dealers were giving away Dahon bikes with the purchase of a motorhome. I have one of their promotional television commercials on VHS video; the announcer pronounces it Duh-hawn. (Accent on last syllable.)

Still seems like there is not much consensus. I think the company call it Duh-hawn and the public favour Day-hon?

I always thought in my head that is was Dah-Hawn...Like Honda, but the hon and the da switched.

I've always said DAH-hawn, and think I've heard that more than DAY-hon. Never heard dah-HAWN as golden_foldie mentions.

FWIW, the company's name is pronounced dah-hahng in (Mandarin) Chinese.

I see it and it means, "leaf" in Tagalog/Filipino, so in my head it sounds like "dah-ho-n". On another note, when I used to live in Minneapolis, I loved seeing commercials for "Duling Optical", a vision store. Duling means "cross-eyed" in Tagalog. Can't imagine they did too much business with Filipinos/Filipino-Americans.
