Is this the one in the downtown area? Back in the early 90s, it was the Long's Peak Criterium. Man, I loved that race. My Cat 4 field averaged 29mph there one year -- very fun.
Good luck!

Yes, in downtown. I believe it's the same race; fun course!
I want to say this event was painful, but for me, it didn't last long enough to be painful. The SM4 group is unfortunately the lowest catagory [ACA], so it had a wide variety of skill levels. I was about middle of the pack. First mistake: not well prepared enough [I didn't realize this was the state championships!]
Second mistake: I let myself get towards the back at the start [and it was a blazing fast pace], and the riders in front of me lost contact with the group after 10 minutes. I buried myself to get back on [almost did], then stupidly hit a wooden/metal road cover in a turn, which made a huge thud on my front tire, and killed my momentum. I really wanted to catch the pack again so I could ride another five minutes before getting dropped for good. :p I was lapped after 20 minutes, at which point I was ready to throw in the towel and return to training for the next day.
Fun event; great course. I was very annoyed with how things turned out [most of it my inexperience], but it was at least good motivation for my next race. I'm a bit perplexed how the front five guys were really fast, pulling the whole time, and everyone else was just hanging on.
Ok, enough whining! :)
