I'm planning to ride the entirety of the Am River Trail tomorrow. I'll start near my house at Hagan Park in Rancho, head up to Folsom Lake, then down, cross the river above Lake Natoma, down to Discovery Park, and back.

Probably be heading out 9:30 or 10. Anyone want to join in? It's mostly flat, other than the climb up to Lake Natoma. I'm going to shoot for an average speed around 15 or 16.

Sorry Joel, I already committed to riding with a bunch of work buddies tomorrow, one of whom is celebrating/bemoaning turning 40. But we'll also be on the AMBR as well. Since this is the first ride in awhile for several of them, we'll only be aiming to ride from Five Points out to Folsom & back, though I'm lobbying hard to get 'em to consider going up to Beals Point. I'll keep an eye out for ya in case our paths cross...

Well, I finished the ride, but it really beat me up. Totally exhausted and stomach is rebelling. With about 5 miles to go I had to hit a bench, nearly passed out. I think this ride was just more than I'm ready for.

Anyway, a shade over 65 miles, 14.5 avg speed. Several breaks. A bunch of snacks too, so I did eat. And a whole lot of water got drunk.

Great job! I am nowhere near ready to do the entire trail. I rode 18 miles round trip on the ARBT today.

Didn't see your post until I got back today. You'll do better next time, especially if you ride with other folks...

Next Saturday the Davis Bike Club 3rd Saturday ride might be worth looking into, especially if you want a change of pace. There are ways to cut it off short, depending on the route we take. PM me if you're interested.

I'm recovering. Looks like I'm pretty dehydrated and I didn't lose anything out of my stomach. So I just didn't drink enough water. Maybe that was the reason for the symptoms. At least I was able to make it home.

I'll check on the Davis ride for Saturday.

I feel reasonably confident now that I'll be able to handle the laid back group ride in 2 weeks.

Wow! Give yourself plenty of credit for a strong effort-- today's conditions hardly made for an easy ride. You not only had to deal with the heat, but some nasty air conditions as well. My buddies & I only did 40 miles and my lungs were beginning to feel the effects of the smoke by the time we got back.

Did you have any Gatorade or anything like that? Green Gatorade makes a big difference for me, especially on hot days like today. In any case, hope to see you on Saturday.

I guess I don't know how many, or how long your breaks were, but if you can do 65 miles, you're doing pretty darn well :). Nice ride. Maybe we can ride after work some time - I work off Sunrise in Rancho and can just bring my bike with me. Maybe I'll ride the bike trail with you, and break off to my house at Discovery, then ride back to work in the AM>

Sure, that would be great! Let me know when.

My daily rides tend to be either 16 miles or 27 miles. Depending on route and how far I go. Weekend rides tend to be in the 35 mile range. I just don't tend to ride long distances often. Frankly, I'm not so interested in spending that long in the saddle!

On the other hand, I do want to make sure I can to the BF group ride in Davis in 2 weeks. So I'm working up to making sure that I'll be able to complete it.

juliov, I'd like to give that ride another go next month. Sure is boring to ride alone though. I think I'll see about putting together a group for the next go.
