You guys ready for a Solid Month of these Bogus Commercials?

And that guy running over the wood with the nail in it and the scene froze as he got out to explain how his tires was da bombs! "Well, I guess Ill be on my way"

Jeez, I can't hardly wait! (roll eyes) Don't forget the Honda motorcycle commercial where the guy sprouts giant red wings & flies up out of the traffic tunnel or the never-ending promos for those lame MMA fighting events, etc.

Saab: Born from jets
A failed marketing gimmick to try to inject some testosterone into a car driven almost exclusively by upper middle class housewives and guys that are so delicate they make Michael Stipe look like Dirty Harry Callahan.

Is it just me? Seems like all the commercials shown during the TdF are products that don't fit the cycling lifestyle. Maybe I am not the typical viewer. I do not have an interest in ATV's with power steering, Tires for people to stuffy to touch a wrench, Motorcycles that give you freedom, Cars marketed to blue hairs.

Watching the end of the Tour de Suisse, I was surprised to see Specialized still running their Tom Boonen "I am Specialized" spot. This was post-cocaine positive, BTW. I'll chuckle this year when the excluded Tornado Tom flogs his bike during every other break in the "clean Tour" broadcast...

"At least now when I go to Autozone, I don't have to ride my bike"
Is there a worse place to run that commercial than on the TDF telecast?
It just further proof that marketing execs are comic geniuses.
I saw it, they're stupid. The kid would rather pay for gas for some ****box junker car than ride his bike? Bogus.

Advertising is very largely revolting--on many levels. Like "reading" history (which includes visiting museums, historical sites, and viewing documentary films), it requires much sifting and critical thinking in order to not simply be propaganda or worse.
Having said all that, I did like the Lance/Trek commercial right after the (broadcast) end of the stage. Trek's interests are served in touting a lifestyle that looks for alternatives (including bicycles of all types, of course). And as far as I undertand it, it's also a message that Lance himself is fully behind (guess it's nice that Trek will pay him to say what he really thinks, :D )

The Trek commercial was nice. The takebackthetour commercial is already old....kinda like the Mitchum commercials from the past couple of years.

What about the small problems of Title & Insurance? Only in maybe Mississippi or Mexico can you just fix the first car you find on the side of the road & claim it as yours.
SPOILER:
There weren't any of those born from jets commercials in today's stage.

Hey!! That would be Alabama. Just kidding.
What I love about this ad is the kid is broke so he fixes some old Ford that gets 10MPG. Well this is going to work out well.

I don't care how bad the commercials are, I don't have to watch them if I choose not to. I am just glad there are sponsors still willing to put up their cash so I can watch this race every year (and cycling is not exacly holding up their end of the bargain with all of the questionable bannings). It is a damned sight better than not having those commercials, or a race to watch.

I love Saabs, although have yet to own one. And I've certainly heard worse taglines than "born from jets". After all, the twelve guys who designed the first Saab (and a few models thereafter, say the 92 through 96 series) were aeronautical engineers. Saab is first and foremost an aviation company. And the car division is part of General Motors, which is why the last 13 years worth are rather vanilla compared to their predecessors.

Look on the bright side-each Saab from jets commercial is time spent away from the Bob for Enzite commercials. :roflmao2:
I'll be honest .... it's difficult for me to get through this year's TdF already due to this abomination of a commercial.
Do they think we all have a cycling IQ of 4? Should we hate the riders who got caught or admitted to doping yet love the dopers who skirted the tests? That seems to be the implication.
Versus ... we know the current riders are still doping. Stick your foolish message where the sun doesn't shine, and just cover the race.
Shame on you VS ... shame on you.

The Saab ad this year repeats the same line 3 times in each ad.
They must be shooting for everyone to be 3 times more sick of them than we were last year.

I have to agree. My problem with it is that it seems like they are trying to undo history. Take the approach of the other commercial for the "Take Back the Tour" which sends a better message, at least in my opinion.

Nah, they're just making a point - recycling of waste - very badly.
Last year's Born From Jets campaign was a lot better, and I only considered it slightly above average once you got past the decent tagline.

Yeah.. How about ads from Nike, Schwinn, REI, Columbia? I could think of many others that would be a better fit than a bunch of motor vehicle ads. I'm sure an unusually large proportion of the viewership has rejected cars in general and may not even own one!
I just logged onto this site just to ***** about this ad. Do I have to see this thing a half dozen times a day for the next 3 weeks?
Why don't they just put floyd in the stocks and we can all throw stuff at him.
really what's the difference.
Fools.

Ditto. I don't mind the new Saab commercial. It's relatively quiet, generally pleasant, and there's a cute lady in it. There are much more annoying commercials out there getting too much air time.

Selecting key riders because they got caught or admitted to doping is such a joke to any real cycling fan. The commercial must be for the neo-fan, or as you state .... the fools.

I can guarantee after the last couple of days I will never buy a Saab turbo... because I dont care about efficiency and performance from "recycling" exhaust gasses... (I would rather ride my damn bike for free)

They keep recycling all of the same commericals over every break. Since I can't watch it today because of work, I am recording it. No more commericals for me. 2 stages and I am done with all of them.
i didn't really mind the Saab commercial last year. 'course, i'm a pilot so i'm biased. the one this year is starting to annoy me in only one day of watching. the point they're trying to make is obvious, but hearing the same line three times every commercial is getting old fast. i wonder if they ran this by a focus group?

The commercial makes no mention of who to love or who to hate. You are free to draw your own conclusion. The commercial says that these guys are admitted or caught cheats and it's time to start fresh. Time to turn the page on them and the entire era. It's not calling out Floyd or Jan or Bjarne so much as it's admitting the sport had a problem and it's time to move on.
