Ive been researching, searching, going to stores. I was looking at a Trek X0-1 or a Lemond but they like the Tricross all out of stock. I don't know how to build my own bike yet and was wondering if a Surly cross-check is a good starter bike, the bike has changed little from year to year apparently and is still available. I noticed it looked a little long and the tail is a bit steep.

I went to my local dealer and they are doing a check up on the Felt FX1. If i cant get my hands on one of them should i go for the Surly as a starter bike or wait for next seasons bikes (any idea when we will see them?)

Surly make a very good, albeit heavy bike. If you are going to race don't waste your money on the heavier Surly. Save your pennies for a lighter bike you won't trade in next year. OTH, if you're just going to use it a daily driver go with the Surly. It is indestructable and will last for a long time.

Thanks. I went into my local bike shop and the next Tricross will be available in September. So im going around this coming weekend to get measured up. Probably will be going for the Sports triple or it's replacement but i want to know if it's worth upgrading to Carbon forks?

all of the tricross models come with a carbon fork, i believe.

if you were to get the surly i'd say it's definitely worth upgrading to a carbon fork for the race season, as the stock steel fork is quite heavy. that's what i'll be doing. the steel fork will go back on in december.

My bike shop has found a Tricross in my size and i am going for a test ride this week. So it will probably be the Tricross.
