...then I flipped it back.

They may never let me back in the Roadie forum again. :D

When not performing it's cyclocross duties, I have the Jake set up for road going wandering in comfort. Fenders, big tires, comfy saddle....

So I figured I'd turn the Trek 1500 into the lean, mean, race machine. Flipped the stem, slapped a set of clipless pedals on there, and put a super slim WTB Silverado saddle on it.

Well it started to fall apart earlier this week when it became clear I just don't have a Silverado shaped butt. I swapped it out for a Velo Plush "Competition" saddle. While out test riding it, I said to hell with it and flipped the stem back pointing skywards in all it's 17 degree, dorky glory. This morning, I just ditched the clipless in favor of clips and straps.

Turns out the Velo Plush is a piece of crap. I seem to have bent the rails in one 36 mile road ride. I sense a Brooks B17 in my future. I've been known to ride in white socks, I suspect facial hair isn't far behind.

Hell, who am I kidding? I've always loved Rivendell bikes. There, I said it. I'm out of the closet now...

:) i think i have a 17 stem as well. i am toying with the idea of the flip (many due to how far my bars angle down from the stem, and all the flipping talk in the road forum). but i really think i need a 6 or 0 degree stem more than a -17, which is probably pretty intense.

get the riv and give the 1500 to me ;)

what went wrong with the clipless, and what saddles are you used to. Jumping right to a small hard saddle made me swap it right out, but like a month later i had to replace all my plush saddles with smaller harder ones. The more i get used to my current saddles the more i want to buy harder ones :)

I've ridden with all kinds of riders and let me tell you, The roadie forum is 90% filled with poseurs!

If I could find that in my size, I would so buy that jersey.

I do like the firmer saddles, but I need a more rounded profile. The WTB is just too flat. And the Selle Italia Flites that I like are just too dang expensive. :(

I suspect the clipless didn't work as I have the cleats set up for my mountain bike. My SPDs have very little float, so they didn't quite work with the narrower road cranks.

Rest assured folks, I'm still very much a poseur. I'm just still trying to figure out what kind... :D
