Tandem Cycling - Tandem always invokes comments

:) Hi, tandems might be slow, but when some idiot blocks the bike path, [teenager on skateboard Etc.] I just keep pedaling [and ringing my bell] and when they see it's a freight train coming right at them, they move out of my way before getting run over. Anyone else have this problem?

Can't say I have that problem. Maybe it's because I think of them as "multi-use paths" instead of bike paths. So when someone is blocking the way, I slow down, let them know I'm there, and wait for them to move aside. Each kid out on his/her skateboard is one less kid plopped down on their sofa playing video games.

Leaving a water stop at the GSW Seacoast Century this Sunday: "You guys need slow down so we can get behind you, then we can all go 300mph!" For the record, our top speed was well below that.

From a couple on a motorcycle a few weeks ago, "We should get one of those!" Several other other m'cycles have given us a thumbs-up. I think they can relate to the allure of it.

Usually it is the little kids who are uninhibited enough to shout and point. Most adults just stare. A co-worker that rode a tandem long ago asked me, "does everyone still smile when they see the tandem?"

We've only gotten one "She's not helping!" so far.

We get the usual "She's not pedaling in back", plus "You're going the wrong way." This bike is goodwill ambassador for tandem cycling as everyone who sees it wants to come over and talk to us.
