Northern California - Another Deer Sighting

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just to prove that it's not just Pete, I saw a couple of deer run across Stevens Canyon Road (on the way to Redwood Gulch). They ran across about 500 feet in front of me. Too quick for me to whip out my camera. They are everywhere!
You know Shady Lane near Ross going to/from Fairfax? I saw two deer right on someone's front lawn and they were really tame too. I came within 20 feet and they didn't even look.
Your right, they are everywhere, I've seen about 10 in the last two weeks on rides. Also seen many dead on the side of the road.

I assume that the extra dry summer is forcing lots of wild animals to explore new territory for food this summer.
In Palo Alto, Foothills Park and Arastradero Nature Preserve are closed this week because a mountain lion attacked a hiker yesterday. This is the first time that I have ever heard of a mountain lion attacking a human in the Bay Area.

I've heard it a few times in So Cal, specifically in Orange County, places where it used to be their natural habitat. Maybe you are onto something regarding the heat, and searching for food. I never thought of that.
This was taken just off of Sir Francis Drake in Fairfax going north towards White's hill.

Bicyclists have been killed by mountain lions in So Cal, but the weather is always dryer and warmer down there. I've never heard of 1000 wildfires in the same week before, either. This is going to be a long summer.

Foothill Expressway about 500 yards north of downtown Los Altos right on the edge of the road. I tried to wheel/pawsuck, but I wasn't in the same league as the doe and couldn't get much of a draft ;-)

Pawsucking is great if you can do it...I've only had one time that I've been able to do it, but it was short lived. Deer have a tendency to be squirrelly!...:roflmao2:
