Hi all,

I am planning to take part in 1,000km 5day event next May.
I have done a number of 1day events up to 280kms so feel I should be able for this.
The question I have is when should the 'serious' training start for an event like this. In any event I will be putting in some miles over the winter, but would a 4month program starting in Jan09 be sufficient or should I start putting in big miles for a better base maybe in Oct / Nov.
Any other tips much appreciated.

Thanks
Martyn

Main recommendation?
Don't overtrain.
Get at least one long ride in a week (over 100km).
Get some short fast rides in during the week.
3 months is enough to get fit, ease off 2 weeks before the event, ride a bit less, do some short fast rides 4-6 days before

Try to ride similar terrain, if possible, as your event.

Do a couple back to back 200Km rides so you get used to riding with limited recovery.
