i used to go when it was in rosemont and i still use the stuff i got there from the close-out bins. you've got to go the first day however. i might squeeze in a family run on the sunday (family day)
i remember seeing and meeting Rolf -the guy was introducing his new & radical Rolf wheelset.

and most of all - there was a guy from ohio who was selling homemade helmet mirrors made from a spoke and a mirror mounted on an aluminum can cut out. i am looking for that guy. i need another one after years and years....

Anyone that meets up with me- we should all go to the afterparty for the Bike Show. If we meet up after the lecture, I think the after party is shortly after that. In the meantime, we can stroll the booths some more and buy some stuff discounted.....

This looks good. I might be able to go, too. Koffee, you are scheduled to speak? I don't see any "Koffee Brown" on the website. :D

Perhaps I will see some of you there.

Well, I am jealous as hell. I wish I was going to the Bike Show next weekend!

Also wish there was something comparable close to where I live.

Waaaaa!

Good to hear you got a Stumpy, Bill. It's a heckuva bike. Too bad it wasn't from our shop, but I suppose I'll let it slide this time. :p
(We don't have any comparable bikes left right now anyway)

Where in east Texas do you live, MsVicki? Aren't you a teacher? Are you on spring break this week?

I haven't been to many big bike shows. This one looks to be interesting.

Hi Bill-

I'll be at the Bike Show looking for you around 2pm tomorrow... I plan on running over to the Specialized booth to meet Waldo (hi Waldo, I got a Specialized Sirrus A1 to chat about), so why not meet there at 2pm?

See ya.

Koffee

P.S. I gave you my cell number in a PM so you can also call me when you get inside the building to track me down just in case.

No spring break for me until the middle of April. Hope the weather is great so I can be on my bike a lot!

It was nice to meet Koffee and Waldo at the show. I thought the show was decent and should pick up attendance this weekend.

I hope your seminar turned out good Koffee. I will have to meet up with you Waldo on some weekend rides at your shop soon.

Later,

Bill F.

Yeah, it's always nice to be able to put faces with names. Will be looking forward to maybe catching you at a ride, Bill. Only had five guys this morning, but it was the first Saturday ride and obviously the weather wasn't that great. Hopefully that'll pick up.

Update!

I think the seminar turned out well. I had about 15 people on Friday and about 25 or so people on Saturday. When I was walking around the floor, I ran into some people who said they heard that my seminar was good.... it was in powerpoint, with lots of pictures for examples, and thanks to Chris L, Roughstuff, and Visionrider for their touring pictures. It was a nice way to end my seminar- everyone looked very interested when I showed bike tours in action. Hopefully, I've turned on lots of new people to touring.

I've got some pictures from the bike show I can share with you guys when I get time to download. I am determined to download it all tonight!

It was good to meet all of you guys at the bike show- I'm sure I wouldn't have had as good of a time if I hadn't have met you guys. I especially had a good time on Friday.

Have a good evening!

Koffee

I may. Not sure. $9 is a lot considering the terror that was with Subura a while back. Like they need my money. They have Lance. Blah blah blah...I should rant, but it is Sunday and I ama complete grouch. So grouchy, this is making it worse.

What's this show like? I've never heard of it before. Would it be worth driving in from Toledo for?

I usually attend SOFA at Navy Pier....

Let me know, please...

The bike show is alright, I don't know if it would be worth your trouble. Depends on what you were hoping to get out of it.
As to the negativity with Subaru, the way I look at it they're a big sponsor of IMBA and assorted teams, so they can't be all bad.

pitboss
01-21-04, 05:06 AM
Great. They support IMBA. So do thousands of people. cheap marketing ploy. Yes I understand that IMBA appreciates the extra support, financial and otherwise, blah blah blah...
The last thing I want when I walk into a bike show is a car company asking me questions like "Hey, ever driven a Subaru?" or "Can you fill this out for us?"...I know what I can say and do, but the point is that I do not appreciate their pushiness/gimmicks. They (Subaru) can remain at home this year for all I care. It's not a car show.

165-

Can you drop over to Yo's and speak with Marcus and see if he wants to set up a booth there or something? This would be a great way for him to promote his shop.

Waldo
01-21-04, 09:59 PM
It's interesting that you had such trouble with Subaru. I never had anyone trouble me when I was there last year, I even poked around their cars a bit. I think you're missing the point regarding their substantial contributions to IMBA-if it's such a cheap marketing ploy why don't the rest of the automakers do it (or companies of a substantial size, for that matter)?
If they stay home, I think this show goes the way of the CABDA show...
Oh well, it's not like you're about to change your opinion.

Opinions Waldo, opinions.
I was an IMBA member up until that show. It's a bike show, not SUBARU IN YOUR F-ING FACE AS YOU WALK IN show. It was annoying. Maybe if they were talking more about IMBA and less about their cars when I was there. If I want consumerism, I'll go to the mall at XMAS. Or Barrington maybe...
If it dies, it dies. CABDA died, and now we have this. This will die and then we will have that. It will continue one way or another.

165, if you go, I'll see if I can get you a pass as my assistant. If you can agree to help me out for one of my seminars...
the beer drinking seminar?

I'll see about the shop and let you know. Is there a cutoff date?

That's what I said, and it's clear you're not about to change yours and I'm not one for arguing on the interweb. As to Barrington, there's nothing worth seeing here, certainly not consumerism. Just yuppies and moms weilding SUVs as weapons.

There's a $2.00 discount coupon right on the website: here (http://www.chicagobikeshow.com/coupons.html). I see that you can also register online now and save $2.00.

The Rock River Valley Bicycle Club will be there promoting the Old Mill Century. I don't have the booth number yet, and I don't know if I'll be working it or when. But stop by, grab a brochure and say "hi" anyway.
