The bike that I am planning to buy has a couple of choices for wheels.

I have a choice of Shimano 540's or Ritchey DS Pro wheels.

Which would be better as an allround wheel?

any imput would be good

Ultegra w/Mavic open Pro's is the way to go for an all around wheel.

For about the same price of an Ultegra/Open Pro set, you can get a set of Mavic Cosmos for about the same price. Same rim, with just as quality of a hub.

Getawaybikes.com Mavic/Shimano Ultegra open pros-$239
Mavic K Elites or Volomax Circuit Comp $429
There's more to choose from.I guess these prices are ok.

I wrote master wheel builder Peter J. White about how much it would cost to build me a set of 36 hole Mavic CXP33's with Ultrega hubs. He gave me the price, but said he would recommend the Dura-Ace hubs as they bearings are a lot better quality. They cost about $90 more, but he said they are well worth the extra money.
