I'm thinking of combining the GAP trail with the C & O Canal for a 400 mile, week long ride in the spring. Has the GAP finally connected with the C&O in Cumberland? As of '02 it still wasn't completed (I think). I'm also considering a shorter version, just the GAP over 3-4 days. Can anyone elaborate on the trail, conditions, lodging, etc?

The Savage tunnel is not yet complete and some are saying it may not be done till late 2004. That is the only current detour I know of.

In August I am riding the GAP and the C&0 to Washington and then riding north to the North Central and York Heritage trail between Baltimore and York Pa. and on to Harrisburg Pa.
