..and didn't like it at all :). My wife had a doctor's appointment at 8:45, so I could have rode in then came back, or gone in way late and walk through the office sweaty then have to use the shower during business hours. Or I could have drove in at 7:15, got a good hour in to catch up, come home, then come back. I chose the latter, the first time I've car commuted to work in.. months.

How do the rest of you do it? It's so... weird! hahaha!

Also on another subject, my energy levels have been nil since this past weekend's century. I'm considering upping my caloric intake for a day or two (currently I aim for 1500-1800/day), any input?

You rode a century on 1800 calories a day? GASP! Back before I was a cyclist I was taking in 2400-2500 and dropping 5 pounds a month. For goodness sake, EAT SOMETHING!

Hahaha, well I should clarify that I did this every day but Saturday (century day). On that day I had:
-Two PB & Honey sandwiches (pre-ride)
-2 Blueberry Pop Tarts (Mile 30)
-2 Pancakes, 1 Biscuit, 1 Hash Brown, 1 "Egg" @ Mc Donalds (Mile 50)
-1 Fairbury Brand Hot Dog (Mile ~65)
-2 Granola Bars & 2 Fig Newtons (Mile ~90)
-1 order sesame chicken, 1 cup steamed rice (appx), 2 egg rolls (5pm post-nap recovery fuel)
-1 order nachos (9pm wife-just-got-home-and-I'm-starving-again fuel)

I don't even want to calculate the calories, because I promised myself I wouldn't :). Today I'm going to up them to 3,000 and see how I feel tomorrow. My weight loss has been at a steady 4-5lbs/week except last week, which was 7.5 (and also the first week of really keeping 30 miles/day for the most part), so I tend to think I might be too low..

I vote for 'eat something' !! I am on a 1500-2000 budget right now, with 20 miles total per day. Haven't been at it as long as you, but I know, for me at least, that it is right around the limit. I feel good, sometimes a bit hungry, but good energy for my rides, and gives a nice caloric deficit for weight burn. When I introduce more physical exertion, I immediately need more energy, though. Can't imagine how you are doing it!

Thanks again guys, I think I'm just cutting it too low. I'm going to re-budget my caloric intake to 2000-3000/day for the next week and go from there. There is definitely something to be said about jumping from 20 miles/day to 30 miles/day. You wouldn't think so, but man do I feel it.

My caloric intake for STP:

6 bottles of Accelerade: (125 cal. ea.)______750
10 Key Lime Accel Gels: (100 cal. ea.)______1000
8 Chocolate Chip Clif Bars: (220 cal. ea)____1760

Total in "measured" foods: _______________3510
Plus a Snickers bar and a Pepsi at Castle Rock High School, and a turkey/cheese sandwich, half banana, and 2 slices of watermelon at Centralia, and a pint of root beer, plate of crisps and a gigantic Italian grinder for dinner.

I'm pretty sure I was rockin' close to the 7000 calorie mark for the day.

My guess would be 5500, if that.

As an update, the commute today was excellent :). Yesterday I decided to try a new plan, one that I hope is going to work. Seeing that it's budget time here at work (lots of groaning commences..) one way that I saw I could reduce my department's budget is by reducing mileage expenditures. So I'm going to lead the way by starting a new plan, instead of my daily trips out of the office I'm going to allocate one day a week where I will leave the office on appointments (Thursday), all other days either they can come here, or we can use that magical thing called a "phone" and/or WebEx. My goal, obviously, is to eliminate the mileage expense line item completely, but I doubt it will happen.

As part of that, I'm going to "suck it up" and drive in on Thursdays, provided I actually have appointments to fulfill. Some quick math shows that economic impact for the 7 mile trip to/from work 1 day a week will be nil after the mileage reimbursement, and that will also free me up for a "day off" to get things done around the house in the evening.

To further this, I made the bold step of putting up both of "my" vehicles for sale this past week. My in-laws recently had a vehicle upgrade, and they offered to give us their mid-90's Taurus as a gift instead of going through the hassle of selling it. I gladly accepted, and the sale of the other two vehicles will help us pay off what little debt we have, and add to the cash pile for our "dream home" (aka big debt). And I used to be a car geek. Funny how this works.

Seriously, at some point many will realize that cars are nothing but expense, pure and simple. How much of an expense is up to you and your uses. Right now I figure my family is doing pretty good, the Taurus is starting off at $0, and with the insurance for it running a whopping $28/mo (not kidding), I'm not losing much on it. Our van, I feel, is still a necessity. With three young kids, I was happy to invest the money in something decent and safe for them to drive around in, money that I had in the bank that doesn't come with an APR attached.

Two years ago I considered purchasing a new truck, in fact I was *this* close to it. Something kept me from doing so, and the next day I bought my current pickup from my mechanic for $2500 - money I had in the old checking account. Today I see two friends who both have newer pickups, who are both upside down in their loans now that big vehicle prices have fallen through the floor, and both who can't afford to put gas in those trucks any longer. I think I made the right decision, even if one or two people think I "look dorky".

One thing thst sucks the life out of a business, is the face to face meeting, it wastes a huge amount of employee time, productivity and money..... It's cheaper to use phones, faxes, email, couriers or regular mail to exchange information. Think about it, a 25 minute meeting across town, eats 3 hours, you need to get prepared, load up everything, say 1/4 hour, then an hour to get there, 25 minutes for the meeting, then an hour to return, and 1/4 hour of complaining to co-workers about traffic...... One tool that companies should make more use of, is video conferencing, a $20 web cam and a Skype account, and whether your contact is across town or across the world, no travel time is needed.

I'm really pushing hard for precisely that. And really, it's just a shift in thinking. We like to provide great service to our employees, but that great service can easily be had via Webex/Gotomeeting and a phone. For meetings, teleconferences are great, and if not, we have three really nice conference rooms in our corporate office.

And, well, I just don't like to drive more than I have to :D. It's expensive for me, and for the company!

+2 on the teleconferencing/Fax/WebEx/Remote Desktop. I, about two years ago, got IM going in my office, partly because my coworker a few desks down had cerebal palsey and it was a literal pain for him to get up all the time. We started IM'ing the little stuff back and forth and it sort of took off from there and everyone from the Boss on down now has an acct, with our avatars listed in our contact information.

You rode a century on 1800 calories a day? GASP! Back before I was a cyclist I was taking in 2400-2500 and dropping 5 pounds a month. For goodness sake, EAT SOMETHING!

I have to eat 3700 calories a day to keep my current weight. That's without cycling. If I were to cycle I'd have increase that some more. Women generally can sustain their weight off 1900 calories, men are usually 2500-3000.
