Riders!
I'm in Boulder to visit people and race Mt Evans. I'll be racing in the asthmatic old flatlander category. If you hear a wheezing sound below you on the mountain thats probably me. I'll be in the Webcor kit.
Any of you know if it's ok to drive up the Mt Evans rd and park off the road? It'd be cool if my dad could see me race, he's never been able to.

When I raced it back in '92, my wife (girlfriend then) drove up during the race and got to the top. It was busy as hell, but she found parking up there. I saw her car, saw the ambulances with all the O2, saw her car, saw the ambulances again, and for some reason, I went to her car.
I watched one of my teammates pass out on the switchback below me coming up. He came to, and finished about 5 minutes later. How many BFers have gone unconscious and still finished? ;)

Me, kind of. Back in 1960, on a family vacation, we drove to the top. I got out of the car and started running to the small building and passed out. The building is no longer there. I think that it burned down.

:roflmao: Good story. Yep, the bldg burned down.
For some reason, there aren't any fire hydrants up there. WTF?

I should have never taken that speed reading course.

My brother did the race last year and was proud of his finish until he saw that the "unicycle record" beat him by three + minutes.

The race bible says that the road is closed but I don't know if that is from town or just from echo lake.
I've been in boulder for the last couple days. Yesterday I rode with a friend who is also racing on saturday (in the citizen's class) up lefthand canyon. I wanted to do the whole thing but he's taking it real easy so we just went to Jamestown. Today I rode up Flagstaff rd and over the other side a bit. I am feeling th altitude and still kind of tired from the Death Ride on saturday so I am going slow.
The roads here are fantastic. Nice and smooth, not like the paved goat trails we get in California. The bike paths/lanes in town are really nice too. Especially since they are crowded with scantily clad fit young women.

The road will be closed from Echo, not Idaho Spgs. I'm a little surprised the race is this early. You're going to be riding next to some 10-ft tall walls of snow where the plows have cleared it.

There wasn't any snow. There also wasn't any air!
I finished 31st of 80 or so starters, in 2:27. I was hoping for about 2:20 but I had to slow down a little when I started getting dizzy.

Lefthand is a pretty chill ride; I enjoy it. Flagstaff is legbreakers. cheers. :)
