Does anyone know the average speed/time on the ascents this year as opposed to when the climbs were last on the tour? Would be interesting to see if the "clean" tour has reduced times compared to times on climbs over the last twenty years.

Geez, wonder how many variables you would have to figure into that? Temp, humidity, precipitation, who was riding, wind (velocity and direction) race tactics of the day vis-a-vis who had what jersey etc etc etc.

Well that's all true...but... I believe the time on all major mtn climbs has come down in a major way over the period where major drug usage was at least...ummmmm...."rumored". Anyway, I think average speed of the peleton took a rapid jump with the advent of high end designer drug availability. I think I saw a post about it last year...maybe two years ago.... anyway just wondering....

I would certainly never say it couldn't be weather, heat, preliminary stages and competition, etc.... but there has been a fairly significant correlation if I'm not mistaken...

Not enough control variables to make a proper comparison. Bicycle technology has changed, conditioning techniques, radios, team cars, nutrional changes, clothing.

According to LeMond, you can find a rough estimate of power for specific climbs and it clearly shows an increase in the times when people were most likely doping. I heard him mention it in an interview.
