Mountain Biking - A few Q's (8" rotor and deore shifter)

I have a Marzocchi Z1 FR SL, not QR20, and want to know if it's possible to run an 8" rotor on it. I have the Hayes HFX9's and can not find an adapter for the 8" without running the QR20. Has anyone seen it done?

Second, I have the deore shifters on my Enduro and while it shifts fine, the lower arm doesn't return back unless released quickly or flipped back. I've somewhat taken it apart and oiled it, but I have yet to find anything to prevent the arms return. Any suggestions?

Don't really know about the Hayes adapter. I'm guessing that ANY 8" adapter for another Marzocchi (minus QR20)will fit. The QR20 is a wider front hub, so the special adapter is necessary for the proper offset.

Regarding the shifter problem. Don't try to take apart a Shimano shifter, there are about 200 little springs, pins...etc. in there you'll NEVER get it back together.

I would get a good degreaser or solvent, and just spray the heck out of it. What happens is the grease inside gets dried up and/or dirty. This causes the spring on the ratching part of the shifter to cake up. The solvent will clear that out. Problem is then you have to let the solvent dry out before you can then lube it!

This may or may not fix it. If it doesn't, it's new shifter time!

I actually think that the spacing is the same....so there isnt a special adapter for QR20.

My Norco has a Dirt Jumper III on it which has the regular dropouts, and I have Hayes 8" brakes on it. You probably have to get an adapter from Hayes I would think. Also make sure you can put 8" brakes on. Mine are mechanical so they wouldn't be as strong as hydraulics, with the additional power of the 8" hydraulics you could end up breaking something.

20mm, 20mmQR, and a standard Qr are just the type of axle and how it mounts to the fork. The mounts on Marzocchi are international standard (IS) so you can mount an 8" rotor with an adaptor to move the caliper farther out. So yes, it can be done.

As for your shifters, how old are they? Just may be time to replace them. You could also have a cable that needs replacing.

They are a year old. The cable is fine, shifts are great. The issue is when using the lower arm to switch to a couple larger cogs in back, then the arm doesn't return. I'm going to try a2psyklnut's suggestion this weekend.

Was like that from the factory, just has a little aluminum adapter to push the caliper out another inch or so. I can't see why the adapter wouldn't work on any fork.

Actually, I measured mine last night. My Marzocchi QR20 hub is 110 mm, my standard hub is 100 mm, so there is a difference is width!
