Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 1" threadless headset

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I've been looking for a headset for my bianchi pista. I was looking at the chris king but it's kinda steep. What is a good quality 1" threadless headset for under 100$?

I was looking at getting a Campy Record Threadless for my pista. I've seen them as low as $90 online. I'm sure shipping is a grip though.

Aheadset something or another? Believe theres the STS and the SAS? (steel and aluminum cups, i believe).
Those should be reasonably cheap..... but so-so quality.

Cane Creek makes one. Ritchey also has a cheap (and fully functional) 1" threadless headset that I have on my Spicer/Kilo.
I wish everyone who was going to manufacture bikes with threadless forks in mind would just use a 1 1/8" head tube, though.

Campy Chorus makes one that is sold by Colorado Cyclist. I use one and it a nice unit. Large dia BB on the bottom make for a long life

yes it's great. i had an STS but wanted sealed bearings so i went to the S2. i'm glad i did.
unless you really punish your bike or weigh everything in grams before putting it on, you will be hard pressed to justify spending twice or three times as much on something nicer.

I bought one about a year ago after a recommendation from someone on here, and I am very glad I did. It's seen a lot of use but still feels great.
Whats the difference between the S2 and S6 or S8?

I used to buy chris kings for my bikes. now I buy cane creek S2s because I like them more and they are way cheaper. Nice and smooth.

i have the cane creek s2, i would not recommend it. it is very rattly and feels like its going to break if i hit a bump. i think i am going to go with a chris king.

Make sure it's installed and adjusted properly (also make sure you've installed the stem correctly). My S2 feels very solid--when getting the top bolt tight (no play) while not too tight (steerer binding), there are several degrees of leeway (what I'm trying to say is it doesn't need to be perfect like some headsets do).

i am actually going to put on a different stem right now. i am pretty sure it's the headset, but i want to make sure. i'll let you know how it goes maybe i'm wrong.
